PASSAGE I
Read the following passage and answer the questions (91 on it.
The students should devote the whole of their vacations to village service. To this end, instead of taking their walks along beaten paths, they should walk to the villages within easy reach of their institution and study the condition of the villagefolk and befriend them. This habit will bring them in contact with the villagers, who when the students actually go to stay in their midst, will by reason of the previous occasional contact, receive them as friends rather than as strangers to be looked upon with suspicion. During the long vacations, the students will stay in the villages, and offer to conduct classes for adults, and to teach the rules of
sanitation to the villagers, and attend the ordinary cases of illness. They will also introduce the spinning wheel amongst them, and teach them the use of every spare minute. In order that this may be done, students and teachers will have to revise their ideas of the use of vacations. Often do thoughtless teachers prescribe lessons to be done during the vacations. This in my opinion, is in any case a vicious habit. Vacation is just the period when students' minds should be free from the routine work and be left free for self-help and original development. The village work, I have mentioned, is easily the best form of recreation. It is obviously the best preparation for dedication to exclusive village service after finishing the studies. .
91. What should the students do during vacations? Choose the correct alternative from the following.
They should devote thllir vacations to village service
They should play cricket
They should complete their homework
They should undertake plantation

PASSAGE II Read the following passage and answer the questions (96 on it. Of men's earliest inventions we know very little. The first may have been the use of a stone to crack a nut. The next was possibly the use of a stick to strike an enemy. Once man found that stick and stone were useful, it was only a step further to the making of a crude weapon by fastening a stone to the end of a stick. Man used stick and stone long before he dared to meddle with fire. Fire, of course, existed; for lightning must sometimes have set the forests ablaze just as it does today; and in those days volcanoes were much more active than they now are. The forgotten-hero who first dared to tame fire for his own use was the greatest of early inventors, for once man had fire, he was the master of all lower creatures.
96. What can man's earliest invention have been? Choose the correct alternative.
The use of stone to crack the nut The invention of wheel
The invention of fire The invention of agriculture
97. Why did not man use fire as early as he learnt to use sticks and stones? The man did not use fire earlier because Choose the correct alternative to complete the above sentence.
he was afraid of fire he was not able to tame fire
he did not need fire it was very difficult
98. In what form did fire exist before man learnt to make fire Choose the correct alternative.
