1. Case Study.
Mr. Arvind Patil recently joined Sujay Dairy Ltd., as a production manager three
months ago. He has 25 years work experience with another reputed Dairy Unit
Amit Dairy Ltd., operating in the area of especially milk powder. He was well
known for his working style with no excuse. He started facing problems related
to communication especially getting information from top management to lower
management. There used to be lacunas in forwarding messages even in oral
also. Once a very important message was given in oral when the importance for
written communication. Mr. Arvind Patil urged the concerns at least pass on a
SMS to get the information. But no way it was improved every day there used to
be a communication gap and the problem used to arise.
He was supposed to attend a routine departmental heads meeting last Wednesday
at 4.00 p.m, which was presided over by the managing director of the company.
He did not attend the meeting as there was no formal or informal communication
to him, the managing director didn't like his absence as there were many important
items to be discussed regarding production department. Mr. Arvind Patil was
called by the managing director on the next day and asked explanation for not
attending the meeting. Mr. Arvind Patil replied that there was no information. He
also added that in the previous organization the communication used to be very
strong in the form of SMS' and Notices counter signed by respective persons
and no communication gap could take place.
The MD called the secretary and asked why this has happened. The secretary
said that it was a routine meeting and as such information was not sent to any
departmental head. But all other heads, except Mr. Arvind Patil, attended the
meeting.
