END TERM EXAMINATION, NOVEMBER 2016 B.A.LL.B. (HONS.) SEMESTER-IX Criminology Penology (Opt.-II) Max. Marks: 60 Time Allowed: 3:00 Hrs. Note: Answer five questions including Question No. 1 which is compulsory. The number of marks carried by each question is indicated at the end of the question.

1. Explain the following (each explanation should be in approximately 100 words) (Marks a. Concept of Punishment. b. Characteristic of Criminal Law. c. Importance of Criminology d. Rafael Garafalo view on crime. e. "Rarest of Rare Case" principle. f. What is Parole? g. What do you mean by organized Crime? h. What are the rights of prisoners? i. Biological approach of causation of Crime j. Urban and Rural Crimes.

2. "Criminology is not a full- fledged science, However, many criminologists hope that it will become science in future, but search for generalization goes out the window, criminology will become even more of a hodgepodge than it is now" on the basis of this statement discuss the nature of criminology. (Marks 10)

3. What is capital punishment? Examine the constitutionality of capital punishment with special reference to India and present abolitionist's view (Marks 10)

4. "A person becomes delinquent because of an excess of definitions favorable to violation of law over definitions unfavorable to violation of the law." In the light of this statement discuss the Differential Association Theory of Edwin H. Sutherland. (Marks 10)

5. What do you understand by Probation? Discuss the nature of Probation and how it differs from Parole? (Marks 10)

6. What are the aims, objectives and conditions of Prison? Discuss the various prison reforms with special focus on Prison work and education. (Marks 10)
