SEMESTER VIII X
WOMEN LAW (OPT.)
Max. Marks: 20 Max. Time: 1:30 Hrs.
Note: Answer any TWO questions out of three. All questions carry equal marks.
1. The concept of empowerment flows from the power. It is vesting where it does not exist or exist inadequately. Empowerment of women would mean preparing women to be politically, socially and economically independent.
In the light of above statements, discuss the constitutional provisions intended for empowering the position of women and its enforcement by the judiciary (by citing any two applicable judgments). (Marks 10)
2. Under Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) the Governor of a state can declare an area as 'Disturbed', giving the armed forces extraordinary powers. This results in army personnel committing grave human rights violations by extra judicial killing, mass rapes, sexual harassment etc., as a consequence of extensive powers.
According to Government, India has strong security issues which make it necessary to have the presence of armed forces in certain areas. Propose the appropriate solution by applying the principles and applicable provisions (if any) of CEDAW with regard to above mentioned situation. (Marks 10)
3. Write short notes on following: (Marks 5×2=10)
a. Position of women in Vedic period and Colonial period.
b. Role of the Declaration on the Elimination of Violence against Women.
