1. What are generic geographical indications? Trace the evolution of law relating to generic indications from Paris Convention via Madrid Agreement and Lisbon Agreement to TRIPs agreement. Also mention shortcomings if any. (Marks 10)
2. Answer the following:
a. Differentiate between Protected Designations of Origin and Protected Geographical Indications with help of illustrations. (Marks 04)
b. "Article 23 of TRIPs is often described as providing a higher level of protection to wines and spirits". Why so? (Marks 06)
3. Answer the following:
a. Why GI is seen as a potential IPR tool for protection of traditional knowledge?

b. Discuss the role of certification marks in protection of geographical indications with examples. (Marks 05)
