Konark is a city of Orissa, which is popular as a historical and tourist place in India. The most important monument of this holy city is the Sun temple. It is also known as the Black Pagoda. Narsimahadeva built Konark Sun Temple in the 13th century. The Sun temple is a great example of Orissian architecture. It is recorded in the world heritage site and is also regarded as one of the seven wonders of India. An age-old myth says that, originally it was Samba, son of Lord Krishna who constructed the Sun temple to honour Lord Sun. The name Konark is derived from two different Sanskrit words and which means „angle‟ and The entire temple has been conceived as a chariot of the Sun God with 24 wheels, each about 10 feet in diameter, with a set of spokes and elaborate carvings. Seven horses are pictured dragging the entire temple and the two lions guarding it.
