UNIT I
1. What is the significance of engineering geology in major civil engineering projects?
Distinguish between physical and chemical weathering and Write the importance of weathering
with reference to dams and tunnels.
2. What is weathering? Write a note on Biological weathering of rocks.
Explain the effects of weathering conditions importance for construction of reservoir.
UNIT II
3. List down the physical properties used in identification of minerals. Explain any five physical
properties of minerals.
Distinguish between texture and structures of rocks. How do you distinguish igneous, sedimentary
and metamorphic rocks in the field?
4. Explain the physical properties of the following minerals.
i. Talc
ii. Calcite
iii. Asbestos
Distinguish between dyke and sill. Write the physical properties of granite and sandstone.
UNIT III
5. What is a fold? Explain the types of folds and their bearing on the engineering construction.
