15. Read the passage and answer the questions given
below:
To avoid the various foolish opinions to which
mankind is prone, no super human genius is
required. A few simple rules will keep you out from
silly error.
If the matter is one that can be selected by
observation, make the observation yourself.
Aristotle could have avoided the mistake of thinking
that women have fewer teeth than men, by the
simple device of asking Mrs. Aristotle to keep her
mouth open which he counted. He did not-do so
because he thought he knew. Thinking that you
know when in fact you a fatal mistake, to
which we are all prone. I believe myself that
hedgehogs eat black beetles, because I have been
told that they do, but if Iwere writing a book on the
habits of hedgehogs. I should not commit myself
until I had seen one enjoying this unappetizing diet.
Aristotle, however, was less cautions. Ancient and
medievel authors knew all about unicorns and
salamanders; not one of them thought it necessary
to avoid dogmatic statements about them because
he had never seen one of them.
Questions:

What could he have done to avoid this foolish

Why didn't Aristotle try to do that?

Write a precis of the following passage in about one
third of its length suggest a suitable title.
An old man came to Bombay for the first-time. His
son was employed in Bombay, but he did not come
to the station to receive his father. The old man
came out of the station. He talked to a taxi-driver
and gave him the address. The driver demanded
Rs. and the old man agreed to pay the amount.
He then got into the taxi. The taxi started and
travelled at such a speed and so such an erratic
course that is nearly collided with a lorry. The old
man got frightened. Take care, Cried the territed
passenger, tapping on the driver's shoulder to
attract his attention. 'You are frightening me by
going fast. I am afraid will be in hospital instead of
at my son's house I want you to be more careful.
This is the first time I have travelled in a car. I am
very nervous'. This is the first time I am driving
car'.

Bansilal's train was late and it reached Mumbai a little
after midnight. It was his first visit to the city, and he

didn't know where to go. He thought he would go to a
Choultry where he would not have to pay rent, but he did
not know how to find one at that hour. He asked a porter
to get him a cheap room. The porter said that if Bansilal
gave him three rupees, he would take him to one. But
Bansilal waved him away and walked out-of the station.
He wandered through the streets and asked a number of
people but could not find a room cheap enough for him.
He Sat-down on a park bench to think of what he should
do next. He was very tired and fell asleep on the bench.
He woke up the next morning stiff in every limb-but he
smiled when he realized that its was the cheapest night's
lodging that he had ever had.
