Day Date: Thursday, 29-06-2017 Max. Marks: 100
Time: 11.00 AM to 02.00 PM
Instructions: All questions are compulsory.
Q.1 Solve any Two 20
What is IP fragmentation? Why is it needed? Explain with an
example?
Compare TCP and UDP.
What is the need for layered architecture? Explain the features of
various protocols used in TCP/IP reference model.
Q.2 Solve any Two 20
Explain cell delineation state diagram during Transmission of ATM
Cells.
Explain the requirements for ATM traffic and congestion control.
Write short notes on: ATM Convergence Technology.
Q.3 Solve any Two 20
How does a radio signal propagate in the wireless medium?
Define medium access and list the different types of medium access
techniques for voice oriented network.
Compare the capacity of IS95 CDMA with AMPS FDMA and IS-136
TDMA systems for the 1 available bandwidth of 1.25MHZ. For the
CDMA system, assume an acceptable SIR of 6dB, data rate of 9600
bps, voice duty cycle of effective antenna separation factor of
2.75, neighboring interference factor =1.67.
Q.4 Solve any Two 20
If GSM uses a frame structure where each frame consists of eight
time slots
Time duration of a bit
Time duration of slot
Time duration of a frame
How long must a user occupying a single time slot wait
If 1MHz of the allocated spectrum is dedicated to control channels,
find an equitable distribution of control channels and voice channels.
Consider global system for mobile, which is a TDMA/FDD system that
uses 25 MHz for the forward link which is broken in to radio channels
of 200 KHz. If 8 channels are supported on a single radio channel and
if the guard band is assumed, find the number of simulations used
that can accommodated in GSM.

in the OSI model with a neat figure.
With the help of a block diagram, explain the general decoder for
cyclic codes, also explain the step-wise procedure of error correction?
Describe the advantages, drawbacks, and the various transmission
techniques of Infrared LANs.

Q.6 Solve any Two 20
What is the need of audio/video standards? Explain different MPEG
standards and also give their Frame Structure.
What is QoS support for internet application? Explain the control
mechanism used in each class to maintain the QoS requirement.
