QUANTITATIVE METHODS

SECTION A — X 8 40 marks)
Answer any FIVE questions.
1. Three firms manufactures the same product. The
selling price is Rs. 10 per unit of the product-equal for all
the firms. The fixed cost for firms x,y,and z respectively
are Rs. 1,00,000, Rs. 2,00,000 and Rs. 3,24,0000. While
the variable costs per unit are Rs.8, Rs. 5 and Rs. 4
respectively. Determine the break even points for all the
firms. How much profits are earned by the firms if each
of them sells 70,000 units?
3. What are the essential characteristics of a linear
programming model?

11. Eight white and two black balls are randomly laid out in
a row. What is the probability that the two balls are side
by side? What is the probability that they occupy the end
positions?
12. Explain joint, conditional and marginal probabilities with
example.
13. In the child welfare section of a hospital, two specialist
attends to the out door patients daily from 2 Pm to 5 Pm.
There is a general complaint from the public that they
have to wait too long. The duty doctors also complaint
that due to excess of patients they have to sit beyond 5
