I. Elaborate on: x 10 30)
1. Define Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD). Enumerate the stages of chronic kidney
disease and describe its etiological classification. What are the ways to diagnose
CKD? Enumerate the broad management issues. List out the indications for
dialysis therapy in CKD.
2. Write in detail about the various temporary and permanent vascular accesses. How
will you monitor these accesses? What are the causes of poor blood flow and how
will you circumvent them?
3. Elaborate on peritoneal dialysis principles, types, methods of catheter insertion,
dialysis solutions and targets for adequacy.
II. Write notes on: (10 x 5 50)
1. What are the dietary management principles of a patient in peritoneal dialysis?
2. What is recirculation in AV fistulas? What are the different types of recirculation?
3. What are the medico-legal issues with hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis?
4. Describe the structure and organization of a hemodialysis unit.
5. What are the various quality assurance criteria in hemodialysis?
6. Write about the anti-hypertensive medications, their doses and timings in a dialysis
