1. Write a note on Bravais lattices.
2. Explain the concept of quantization of lattice vibrational energy.
3. Obtain Boltzmann transport equation.
4. Write a note on direct and indirect band gap semiconductors.
5. Explain dissociation energy.
6. Explain the formation of colour centers.
7. State and explain Meissner effect.
8. Write down the applications of superconductors.

Answer ALL questions. 10 40 Marks)
9. Explain lattice vibrations in mono atomic one dimensional infinitely long
lattices.
Or
Explain the vibrational spectra of finite lattice and define phonons.
10. Explain Bloch functions and briefly explain the Kronig-Penny model.
Or
Obtain an expression for position of Fermi levels and carrier concentration in
intrinsic semiconductors.
11. Describe with suitable diagram Schottky and Frenkel defects in crystals.
