Question Paper
Define hydrology. Discuss hydrologic cycle with the help of neat sketch and describe its different components.
What are the conditions required for precipitation formation
Explain the methods of runoff estimation. Discuss limitations and assumptions of rational method.
Determine peak runoff rate for a 10 years of recurrence interval from a micro-watershed comparises of 70 hector area. The Watershed is divided into three parts, based on its land use and soil texture. First part of 30 hector with 1%slope is under cultivation 0.50), second part 25 hector with 12% slope under farm forestry 0.50) and third part 15 hector with slope under pasture 0.36). The maximum length of flow is 3000 m to the outlet. The average slope of channel is 5%. Assume rainfall intensity for a period equal to the time of concentration Tc 30.15 minutes.
Using a flow diagram depict different components of a water balance equation.
Define infiltration and infiltration rate Using a neat figure show IR and accumulation infiltration.
Define evapotranspiration. How do wind velocity and relative humidity influence transpiration
Differentiate between field capacity and permanent wilting point.
Compute mean rainfall if rainfall recorded in a Catchment at 10 rain gauge locations on 14th August 2013 was 90, 111, 75, 139, 28, 86, 65, 112, 59 and 70 mm respectively.
What do you understand by open channel flow What are different channel parameters that affect channel discharge?
What do you understand by head loss due to friction in a pipe flow, define its different terms. Determine head loss from a 200 m long concrete pipe having 15 cm diameter. Assume velocity of flow as 90 cm/sec. and value of Darcy's frictional coefficient is 0.0090.
What do you understand by channel lining. Describe the importance of lining materials for controlling seepage loss.
List commonly used recording type rain gauges. Explain the functioning of float type rain gauge.
What do you mean by discharge measurement? Discuss in detail current meter method for discharge measurement.
