SECTION A

Answer any two of the following questions in about 500 words each. 2x20=40

1. Discuss the importance of agriculture in the Indian economy. Also explain the linkages between the agricultural and non-agricultural sectors.

2. Critically examine the implications of World Trade Organisation recommendations on Indian agriculture.

3. Give a brief account of the progress of irrigation in India. What role do the major irrigation works play in agriculture?

4. Examine the nature of new agricultural strategy. To what extent has it succeeded in modernising agricultural technology in India?

Answer any four of the following questions in about 300 words each. 4x12=48

5. What is an agro industry? State the distinctive features of agro-based industries in India.

6. Define the concept of cropping intensity. Explain the measures for raising it.

7. Explain the functions of 'Commission on Agricultural Costs and Prices'. What were the circumstances under which it was set up

8. State the nature of different subsidies available to the agricultural sector in India. Do we need to continue with these subsidies

9. Discuss the special features of agricultural marketing. What is the importance of proper marketing facilities in agriculture?

10. What are the unique features of NREGA, 2005? Explain.
