The Wildlife Institute of India, Dehra Dun invites application for Walk-in-interview for engaging Project Personnel for an IUCN-KfW funded collaborative project between Wildlife Institute of India and Zoological Society of London entitled Supporting trans-boundary recovery in India and Nepal by extending activities in Nandhaur Wildlife Sanctuary, Uttarakhand. The positions are purely on contractual basis for a period of one year, extendable for further six months. The EQ, DQ and other details are provided below:

Masters Degree in Environmental Science / Forest Management / Economics with Field Experience of 3 years

Desirable Qualification (DQ)

Experience of Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) / Participatory Natural Resource Management Planning

Experience in drafting Ecological and Social Management Plans (ESMP)

Work description & key responsibilities

Conduct a rapid socio-economic survey in the project site and prepare a robust ecological and social management system (ESMS) in line with IUCN-KfW standards.

Design and conduct field surveys, data collection, and analysis and preparation of ESMS.

Regularly update ESMS based on impacts of project activities

Conduct focus group interviews and in consultation with target local communities, facilitate training in a suite of feasible, economically viable livelihood opportunities for communities impacted by the project and prepare technical reports

Essential Qualification (EQ)

Masters Degree in Wildlife Science / Wildlife Biology

with field experience of minimum 2 years

Desirable

Experience in conducting training in GPS aided Patrol

Qualification (DQ)

Based Monitoring / Ecological Monitoring, Camera Trapping

Expertise in conducting training for frontline staff, wildlife survey techniques, camera trapping, patrol based monitoring

Significant field experience in western Terai areas of Uttarakhand

Knowledge of basic principles of ecology and tools and techniques in LEM (SMART, M-Stripe), GIS and Remote Sensing Techniques.

Work description & key responsibilities

Carrying out field surveys, data collection, and analysis and report preparation
Carry out the tiger, prey and habitat monitoring work as per the approved work plan under the supervision of Project Supervisor/Project Manager in Nandaur Wildlife Sanctuary.
Carrying out training for frontline staff in patrol based monitoring and camera trapping
Supporting frontline staff to conduct regular patrol based monitoring
Providing technical support to frontline staff to ensure correct handling of equipment
Provide logistical support to Project Manager to support training programmes in wildlife forensic, information-gathering and data handling
Supporting Uttarakhand Forest Department in collating data from camera trapping, patrol based monitoring and compiling monthly reports for management authorities
Support the biological monitoring team to conduct tiger, prey and habitat monitoring work as needed.
Responsible for technical reporting pertaining to implementing rigorous patrol based monitoring in study area.
Responsible for technical reporting pertaining to tiger conservation in study area.

Duration

One year extendable to six months for all positions

Location of Project site

The post will be based in Dehradun, India and field sites in Nandhaur Landscape, Uttarakhand.

Age

Not exceeding 40 years as on the date of interview. Upper age limit in case of applicants belonging to SC/ST/OBC categories may be relaxed as per the rules.

Emoluments

Rs. 28,000/- per month plus HRA and Medical Insurance

General Conditions

1. The candidate should report by 0930 hrs for scrutiny of documents on 4th December, 2017 followed by an Interview on the same day at 1100 hrs. The Institute will not provide accommodation for candidates appearing for the interview.
2. Candidates should bring the duly filled-in application with attested true copies of testimonials of educational qualifications along with certificate of extracurricular activities; date of birth, mark sheets of all examinations etc. All original documents/certificates must be produced at the time of registration for necessary verification.
3. No TA/DA will be paid for attending the interview.
