Principal Functions:
Under the direct supervision of the Dean, Academic Affairs/Dean, Research and overall direction of the Director, GNLU, the Coordinator shall undertake the following duties and responsibilities in consultation with Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas and GNLU;

(i) Initiate, plan, implement and follow-up research activities exclusively in the area of Everyday Ethics in the Legal Profession, in collaboration with national and international stakeholders including law firms, corporate houses, government departments, public sector undertakings, etc., including with respect to the following:
-
a. ethics for the Legal Profession as would practically apply in everyday situations;
-
b. philosophical principles underlying ethics;
-
c. role of lawyers in influencing broader ethical behaviour in the society;
-
d. institutional and structural ethics;
-
(ii) Supervise under-graduate / post-graduate / diploma research to contribute to thought leadership and capacity building amongst relevant stakeholders of the country, in the area of Everyday Ethics in the Legal Profession;

(iii) Plan and conduct training and extension activities such as workshops, seminars, round-table conferences etc.;

(iv) Provide input to legislature, executive and judiciary on latest trends and developments in Ethics in the Legal Profession on a regular and upon request basis;

(v) Assist in Ethics in the Legal Profession law and policy related activities of Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas and GNLU;
-
(vi) Publish an academic journal and enable contributions to other academic journals on the evolving nature of the practice of ethics in the practice of law;
-
(vii) Contribute towards ensuring that GNLU achieves knowledge and research excellence world-wide in Ethics in the Legal Profession;

(viii) Report on a quarterly basis to Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas and GNLU on programs and activities, indicators of achievement, results obtained under the Chair;

(ix) Engage with the broader community and wider lawyer network to mainstream conversations on Everyday Ethics in public dialogue inter alia by:
-
a. providing a forum for discussion and study of Everyday Ethics in the Legal Profession;

b. promoting comparative foreign research on issues relating to Everyday Ethics in the Legal Profession;
-
c. organizing workshops and training seminars for academics, judicial officers, lawyers, government officials and other stakeholders;
-
d. publishing policy papers, reports and carrying out empirical studies on topical issues of Everyday Ethics in the Legal Profession; and
-
e. providing high quality legal research and study materials on a pro-bono or sponsorship basis.

(x) Carry out direct and ancillary work related to the Scope of the Chair;

Essentials
-
(i) A distinguished scholar, researcher or practitioner having more than 5 years of relevant experience, preferably having doctorate in the same or connected subject, who in the view of the Selection Committee has made significant contribution to knowledge of Ethics in the Legal Profession or who could realize the aim and objectives of the Chair;
-
(ii) Good knowledge of latest national and international research trends and developments in Ethics in the Legal Profession field;
-
(iii) Ability to conceptualize and organize international training workshops and brainstorming online/on-site discussions apart from teaching/Research; and
-
(iv) Fluency in English language.
Desirable
-
(i) Experience in working with international Ethics in Legal Profession policy, research and/ or advocacy agencies, law firms, corporate house, relevant governmental agencies/departments;

(i) International exposure and outlook to Ethics in the Legal Profession;

(ii) Experience of research projects in the field of ethics in the legal profession and /or Research contribution in relevant area.

Important Notes:
-
a) This appointment is initially for 1 year duration, including probation period of 3 months. Subsequent extension depending upon the performance of the incumbent, requirements of GNLU and renewal of agreement between GNLU & Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas, with respect to the Chair.

b) GNLU retains the discretion not to make any appointment to this vacancy, to make an appointment at a lower remuneration, or to make an appointment with a modified job description.
