Appointment of

The DIRECTOR, IIIT-Delhi

Applications and nominations are invited for the post of the Director for Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology Delhi (IIIT-Delhi). IIIT-Delhi is a non-affiliating, teaching and research institute based at Delhi to facilitate and promote studies, research incubation and extension work in Information Technology and its application domains and also achieve excellence in IT and related areas. IIIT-Delhi is an autonomous institute governed by a Board of Governors for all administrative decisions, which is advised by an Academic Senate and Finance Committee for the respective businesses of the Institute.

The Director will be the principal academic and Chief Executive Officer of the institute and shall exercise supervision, management, and control of the affairs of the Institute.

Basic Eligibility criteria: The candidate shall be a scholar of eminence in the area of Information Technology or Computer Science or Computer Engineering having administrative experience in a degree level institution of higher learning. In addition, a candidate must have experience at the level of a Professor for at least ten years and should be preferably less than 60 years (but not more than 65 years) of age on Aug 1, 2018.

In terms of Desired Attributes of the candidates who satisfy the necessary eligibility criteria, a few will be shortlisted for further interaction. For this shortlisting, some of the attributes that will be given weightage are:

Administrative experience in top Engineering/IT Institutions of the country (e.g. IITs, IISc, IIITs, etc.), or R&D labs, or highly reputed universities/ labs abroad

International and collaboration experience

Stature of the applicant in the scientific/academic community (as indicated by quality of publications, citation profile, fellowships of societies or academies, awards, impact of the work, etc.)

Vision and ideas for improving academics, research, institutions.

Ability to lead faculty colleagues, build consensus, etc.

Positive attitude, with initiative, drive, and ability to work hard

Integrity, fairness, high moral values, and work ethics

The Director, IIIT-Delhi will be appointed by the Board based on the recommendations of the Search-cum-Selection Committee designated for the purpose. The Committee will consider the applications received in response to this advertisement, as well as nominations received from its own members, members of BoG (current and/or previous), Directors of top institutions in the country, senior academicians/ administrators from international universities.

From the list of eligible candidates from the applications/nominations received, a few potential candidates will be shortlisted. The shortlisted candidates may be invited for interaction with the Search-cum-Selection Committee and may also be invited to the IIIT-Delhi for the campus presentation and interaction with the Faculty members.

The offer of appointment for the Director IIIT-Delhi will be made on contractual basis for a period of 5-years with the provision of renewal for another period of five years or till the date of attainment of 70 years of age, whichever is earlier. The salary of the Director is same as that of a Director of an IIT, as per 7th Pay Commission recommendations. Besides, the Director will also receive additional personal allowances as approved by the Board. Furthermore, the Director may be appointed as Chair Professor, which can provide an additional compensation. The Director is also entitled to on-campus furnished accommodation and a chauffeur-driven car.
