National Council of Science Museums (NCSM), an autonomous scientific organization under the Government of India is primarily engaged in popularization of Science among the people in general and students in particular through non-formal methods. The Council is also responsible for development of Science Museums/Centres all over India. At present it has a chain of 25 Science Museums and Science Centres in India under its umbrella. It also extends catalytic support for development of Science Centres in India and abroad and to different Public Sector Undertakings in the country for development of museums depicting their respective areas of activities and achievements. The Headquarters of NCSM is located in Kolkata.

Applications are invited for the post of Director General of National Council of Science Museums (NCSM) in the Pay Matrix of level 15 (`1,82,200-`2,24,100.00, present total emoluments `2,49,024.00). The post carries usual allowances as admissible to Central Government employees. The age of superannuation is 60 years as per prevailing rules.

Job Description:

Director General, being the Chief Executive Officer of the Council, shall be required to look after, coordinate and administer the activities of the Council.

He shall also ensure that the policies devised by the Governing Body are effectively implemented. He shall be responsible for proper administration of the affairs and funds of the Council under the guidance of its Governing Body and the Society. Besides, he is responsible for conducting research & developmental work relating to the objects of the Council and providing necessary guidance in such R&D activities. His responsibilities further include mobilization of resources, both internal and external, for proper functioning of the Council and maintenance of proactive liaison with international agencies for implementation of projects abroad.

Qualifications:

The Director General shall be a distinguished scientist / technologist / museologist with high academic attainments in Science or Engineering.

Experience:

At least 20 years of experience relevant to the objectives of the Council, which include design, development and fabrication of interactive exhibits, demonstrations and teaching aids for science education and popularization of science, portrayal of the growth of science and technology and their applications in industry and human welfare, popularization of science and technology in cities, urban and rural areas by organizing exhibitions, seminars, lectures, science camps and various other programmes, supplementing science education by organizing various out-of-school educational activities, conducting research in science and technology in areas pertaining to the activities of the Council.

Age Not exceeding 55 years as on 30.09.2017
