Subject: Filling up the post of Scientist G under the project Deep Drilling in the Koyna Intraplate Seismic Zone of Maharashtra by Ministry of Earth Sciences.

The Ministry of Earth Sciences invites applications for the post of Scientist G in the SAG pay scale of Rs.37,400-67,000 + Grade Pay Rs.10,000/-(pre-revised) under the project Deep Drilling in the Koyna Intraplate Seismic Zone of Maharashtra on direct recruitment basis. The main objectives of the project are:

i) To establish a Deep Borehole Observatory for directly measuring the in-situ physical properties of rocks, pore-fluids pressure, hydrological parameters, temperature and other parameters of an intra-plate, active, fault zone in the near-field of earthquakes before, during and after their occurrence.

ii) To set up Research Laboratory to serve as the operational centre for carrying out the research activities related to the scientific deep drilling, borehole investigations, core analysis and research, and associated field/research studies.

iii) To understand the mechanisms of faulting and physics of the earthquakes towards realistic seismic hazard assessment in an intra-plate environment.

Method of Recruitment: Direct Recruitment

Qualification & Experience:

Essential:

i) A Masters degree in Geoscience/Geology/Geophysics/Seismology with at least first class (60%) in the post-graduation level from a recognized university.

ii) 21 years experience in teaching (at post graduate level) or research and development, planning, supervision, etc in geophysics and earthquake related studies. Doctorate degree shall count as three years experience.

Desirable:

a) Doctorate degree in Geophysics or relevant field;

b) Experience in planning and project development, managing and directing major programmes/projects in related area.

Duties attached to the post

i) To plan and implement all the activities related to Scientific Deep Drilling in the Koyna Intraplate Seismic Zone

ii) To work out different in-situ and laboratory studies and create necessary facilities

iii) To establish Borehole Geophysics Research Laboratory at Karad

i) To coordinate with all the participating agencies and monitor the activities

ii) To formulate geosciences/seismology programmes utilizing scientific drilling techniques in other parts of the country.

iii) To design training programmes, depending upon the need for successful implementation of the activities

Scale of Pay: The post of Scientist G is in the pay scale of PB-4, Rs.37,400-67000 +10,000 Grade Pay(pre-revised) including allowances as admissible to Central Government employees.

Age limit(as on normal closing date):Not exceeding 50 years (Relax able for Government Servants up to five years in accordance with the instructions or orders issued by the Central Government)

Note: The crucial date for determining the age limit shall be the closing date for receipt of applications from candidates in India.

General Conditions:

I. The Ministry reserves the right to cancel the recruitment without assigning any reason.

II. The prescribed essential qualifications are minimum and the mere possession of the same does not entitle candidates to be called for interview. If the number of applications received in response to advertisement is large, it shall not be convenient/possible for the Search cum Selection Committee to interview all the candidates. No correspondence shall be entertained with candidates who are not called for interview/selected for appointment. Canvassing in any form will result in disqualification of candidature.
