Eligibility for PDF:

• The applicant must have a good a Ph.D. degree in Science or Engineering from a recognized University abroad, not before two years from the date of application.
• The upper age limit for the fellowship is 35 years at the time of the submission of application. However, age relaxation of 5 (five) years will be given to Physically Challenged and Women candidates.

Fellowship and other benefits:

Selected PDFs will be awarded a sum of Rs. 50,000/-per month (consolidated) and contingency grant of Rs. 50,000/-per annum for consumables, chemicals and domestic travel for attending conferences/seminars. International air travel is permissible for the first time arrival by the shortest route from originating country by economy class. The fellows are not eligible to receive any other fellowship from any Government or Non-Governmental source during the tenure of the fellowship. Eligibility for PhD:

• The applicant should hold a Master Degree (M.S/M.E/M.Sc/M.Tech or equivalent) in Science or Engineering or in the Interdisciplinary Area awarded by a recognized University.
• The upper age limit for the fellowship is 25 years at the time of the submission of application.

Selected candidate will be awarded with the stipend of Rs. 25,000/-per month and a contingency grant of Rs. 50,000/-per annum which can be used for consumables, chemicals and domestic travel for attending conferences/seminars. Duration of Fellowship:

• The PDF is purely a temporary assignment, and is tenable initially for a period of one year. However, the fellowship can be extended by one more year depending on the progress of research. There is no provision to extend the tenure beyond two years and no manpower support will be provided to the Fellow. He/She is expected to undertake the research objectives by himself/herself during the entire duration of the fellowship.
• The Doctoral Fellowship (Ph.D.) is also purely a temporary assignment, and is tenable for a period of 3 years. The progress of the Scholar will be assessed at the end of every year and extension will be granted based on the research progress of the candidate. Further extension may be permitted based on the recommendation of the Doctoral Committee without any financial commitment on the part of the University. However, the candidate has to submit his/her Ph.D. thesis within the maximum of 5 years from the date of registration.
• Accommodation: Accommodation to PDFs/PhD Scholars will be provided in the University Faculty Guest House/Hostel depending on the availability.
• Leave Details: PDFs/PhD Fellows are entitled to leave as per University rules. Presentation of papers in scientific conferences/seminars/workshops held in India or abroad will be treated as on duty. Maternity leave as per the Govt. of India instructions issued from time to time would be available to female candidates in all categories.
• Termination of the fellowship: If any fellow wishes to terminate the fellowship, he/she shall inform the University through the mentor/HOD. Alagappa University reserves the right to terminate the Fellowship at any stage if it is convinced that appropriate progress of research work is not made or the fellowship grant has not been utilized properly.

• The applicant must identify a suitable Mentor under whom the proposed research would be carried out.
• The selection will be based on the recommendations of an Expert Committee that will be constituted by the Alagappa University. The applicants may be called for interview through video conferencing.
