Applications are invited for the positions of Project Linked Persons for extramural projects to be executed by the National Institute of Biomedical Genomics, Kalyani. Selected applicants will be appointed for a period of one year.

The tenure of appointment may be extended depending on performance and availability of funds.

1. Project Name & Funding Authority: Understanding the biology of stem-like cancer cells from human oral tumors. [funded by Wellcome Trust-Department of Biotechnology India Alliance].

Project Description: Oral cancer is one of the deadliest cancers in Indian population. The majorities of the oral tumors do not respond satisfactorily to available treatments or quickly become non-responsive. This has prompted us to undertake an investigation on the biology of oral-stem-like cancer cells (Oral-SLCCs). These cells are believed to be associated with tumor initiation, propagation, metastasis, recurrence and resistance to therapy in a variety of cancers.Applications are invited for the position of Data Analyst to undertake the challenging yet fascinating and exciting task ofanalysis and interpretation of massively parallel DNA and RNA sequencing data generated from low input samples of Oral-SLCCs from human tumors and also scientifically contribute to the project goals. The International Cancer Genome Consortium (ICGC) has been launched to coordinate large-scale cancer genome studies in tumours from 50 different cancer types that are of clinical and societal importance across the globe. The Indian initiative of the ICGC is on gingivo-buccal oral cancer (GBOC).The ICGC Laboratory of the National Institute of Biomedical Genomics is the site of genomic analyses of the initiative, which consists of next generation sequencing, genome wide scan and related activities. We are looking for motivated and bright individuals interested to explore career opportunities in these high throughput cutting edges laboratory technologies in genomics for the technical positionsas follows. These positions are contractual and appointments will be initially given for one year, which are extendable depending upon performance and requirements of the project.

The Kalyani Cohort is a platform for research on complex traits and diseases. This cohort of about 20,000 individuals drawn from villages in and around Kalyani - a peri-urban region near Kolkata (formerly Calcutta) has been formed to serve as a platform for health and demographic surveillance studies, to be carried out under the leadership of the National Institute of Biomedical Genomics (NIBMG), Kalyani.We are looking for motivated and bright individuals interested to explore career opportunity in this cohort study.
