PURELY ON SHORT TERM CONTRACT BASIS

The Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM) is an autonomous research organization fully funded by Ministry of Earth Sciences, New Delhi. It is a premier Institute of national and international repute, devoted to research in various aspects of atmospheric sciences with emphasis on tropical meteorology, particularly on the Climate Change and Indian Monsoon.

It is proposed to recruit for the following posts as detailed below:

The appointment is purely on temporary on contractual basis for a period of one year initially and later extendable (further up to two more years) depending on Performance.

Upper age limit is relaxed for SC/ST, OBC, Physical handicapped/ ex-servicemen as per Government of India norms.

INSTRUCTIONS

1. The last date of submission of online application is 30-11-2018. The last date is the cut of date for all purposes including age/qualification/experience etc.
2. Only Indian Nationals are eligible to apply.
3. Mere possession of required qualification will not entitle the candidates to be selected for interview. If the number of applications received in response to advertisement is large, it will not be convenient or possible for the selection Board to interview or conduct written test for all those candidates. So, the centre may restrict the number of candidates to be called for interview/ written test to a reasonable limit of desirable qualification and/or on the record of academic performance and/or relevant experience for the post prescribed in the advertisement as per the specific requirement of the centre and/or any other benchmark decided by a committee constituted to screen the applications. No correspondence will be entertained with candidates who are not called for Interview/written examination.

Upper age limit is relaxed for SC/ST/ OBC/Physically Handicapped persons/Ex-servicemen as per Government of India norms.
5. Experience shall mean the experience in the relevant field acquired from Government/ Semi Govt. / PSU/ Autonomous/ Research/ Reputed Organization after obtaining the minimum educational qualification asked for in the said category.

Experience claim should be supported by valid documentation.

6. The selection for the posts of UDC shall be on the basis of performance of the screened in candidates in the written test. And for the remaining posts selection will be on the basis of performance of the screened in candidates, in the interview.
7. Candidates must produce all original documents as proof of details furnished in the application and photocopy of each, at the time of interview for verification. Any discrepancies found in the certificate will attract the disqualification of applications. Non production of the original certificates at the time of interview/ written test will also make the candidate disqualified.
8. Selected candidate may have to join the post immediately, on being found fit by Medical Authority.
9. Essential qualification, experience and age limit can be relaxed at the discretion of the appointing authority in exceptional cases.
10. Director, IITM reserves the right to fill-up or not to fill up the post advertised without assigning any reasons thereof.
11. Minimum of 60% marks in the qualifying degree level are required to be eligible for the Scientific posts mentioned.
12. Doctorate Degree will count as 3 years of experience
13. M.Tech. degree will be counted as 1 year experience
14. No TA/DA will be paid for attending the interview/written examination. For SC/ST candidates admissible TA/DA shall be considered as per Government of India orders.
15. CGPA grading is to be converted in the percentage.

Post Name - Project Scientist D ( 1 post) (For Air Quality, Modeling, MoES-UCAR joint Project on data assimilation)

Essential Qualification:

M.Tech. (Atmospheric Science/ Climate Science/ Earth Science System and Technology/ Environmental Sciences) with at least 60% marks from recognized University / Institute OR

Masters degree in Physics/Mathematics/ Atmospheric Sciences/ Environmental Sciences / Geophysics (Meteorology) with at least 60% marks from recognized University / Institute

Minimum 7 years of experience in Atmospheric regional/global chemistry transport modeling, satellite data analysis relevant to air quality modeling as evidenced by publication relevant field as evidenced by publications.

Desirable Qualification:

Ph.D. in any of the above subjects.
Experience in running air quality forecasting models (like WRF-Chem or CMAQ) and global models (like MOZART etc.) Experience in development of systemsoftware, tools and applications used in high performance computing environment.
Experience in using Programming languages (like FORTRAN-90, IDL, C/C++ etc.) Shell scripting, Meteorological data analysis tools (like (GrADS, FERRET, ARCGIS, NCL, NCO, CDO etc.)
Handling of large volume of satellite data like Net CDF, HDF, GRIB etc.

Job Responsibilities:

Selected candidate has to develop chemical data assimilation system using satellite and surface data for improving chemical initial conditions and run the global and city-scale air quality forecasting system.
Selected candidate is expected to engage in teaching and R & D activities of DESK Program at IITM.

Post Name - Project Scientist C ( 1 post) (For Ecosystem Modeling with linkage to Fisheries )

Essential Qualification:

M.Sc. with at least 60% marks in Fishery Oceanography / Fishery Sciences / MFSc/ Industrial Fisheries/ marine Biology from a recognized University / Institute.
Minimum of 3 years of experience in relevant field as evidenced by publications.

Desirable Qualification:

Ph.D. in any of the above subjects.
Experience in Indian Ocean costal fisheries, Fishery resource management, Potential fishing grounds, observations, interpretation OR computer based techniques to identify potential fishery resources of Indian coastal waters, fish landing, treads and climate change impacts.
Research experience supported by publications in relevant topic in good impact journals.
Very good knowledge in Computer programming using FORTRAN and data analysis softwares such as NCL, FERRET and CDO
Teaching experience in relevant field of ocean biogeochemistry, ocean ecosystem and fisheries.

Job Responsibilities:

Work with scientists to couple dynamical ecosystem prediction model to fish and fisheries for potential fishery zone prediction around Indian coastal waters.
Provide inputs and develop research to identify relation between trends in Indian Ocean fisheries and climate change and its impacts.

Essential Qualification:

B.E./B.Tech./M.Sc. (Physics/Atmospheric Sciences/Meteorology/RS-GIS/ Statistics/ Computer Applications/Applied Mathematics) from recognized University/ Institution with at least 60% marks.
A minimum 3 years of experience in the field of climate variability and teleconnections, Monsoon research; analysis of climate model outputs etc. as evidenced by published research

Desirable Qualification:

M.Tech. (Atmospheric Science/Climate Science) with 60% marks or Ph.D. in Atmospheric Science / Statistics.
Research experience supported by publications in relevant topic in good impact journals would be an added advantage.
Knowledge of operating systems like LINUX and WINDOWS, Expertise in R &/ PYTHON and analysis and visualization softwares like xmgrace, GrADS, MATLAB, CDO, NCL etc.
Experience in handling large volume of climate model outputs ; data formats like NETCDF, HDF and meteorological data, especially rainfall and temperature data sets.
Knowledge of simple statistical tools.

Job Responsibilities:

Analysis of observed rainfall and temperature data, prepare various plots and maps and develop website.
Extraction and analysis of high resolution regional climate models and dissemination of data to impact assessment groups.

Essential Qualification:

A Masters Degree or equivalent in Atmospheric Science/ Meteorology/ Oceanography/ Physics/Mathematics/ Geophysics from a recognized University/ Institution with at least 60% marks at Post Graduation.
A minimum of 3 years of experience of research (after Masters degree) in coupled ocean atmosphere modelling or ocean modelling as evidenced by published papers. .

Desirable Qualification:

Ph.D. in Atmospheric Science or Physical Oceanography
M.Tech. in Atmospheric Science or Physical Oceanography
Good track record of peer reviewed publications in high impact journals
Working knowledge in Coupled Ocean Atmosphere General Circulation Models and/or Ocean General Circulation Models.
Experience in Programming languages (like FORTRAN-90, C/C++ etc.), Shell scripting,; Meteorological data analysis tools (like GrADS, FERRET, NCL, NCO, CDO etc.)
Handling of large volume of data and conversant with data format like NetCDF, HDF, GRIB etc.

Take part in the field campaigns and make quality observations of aerosol-chemical and physical properties and CCN activation
