Applications from eligible candidates for the following post on contract basis :

The candidates who meet the eligibility conditions set out in the succeeding pages for engagement on contract basis to the post of Senior Marine Engineer are to attend the Walk-in-Interview that would be conducted in the chamber of the Chairman, New Mangalore Port Trust, located at Panambur, Mangalore, Karnataka 575 010. The day for conduct of the said Walk-in-Interview will be kept open sine die till such time the post of Senior Marine Engineer(MOT First Class) is filled up by engaging an eligible candidate to the post of Senior Marine Engineer(MOT First Class) on contract basis.

The candidates desirous of attending the Walk-in-Interview for engagement to the post of Senior Marine Engineer on contract basis shall note the following points for compliance:

  1. At the time of attending the said Walk-in-Interviews, the candidates should be in possession of the duly filled up application form (the format of which is given at the end of the terms & conditions for engagement as Senior Marine Engineer on contract basis), all the original certificates pertaining to their qualifications and experience etc. along with 02 Xerox copies each of the said certificates, and 02 copies of their recent passport size photographs.

  2. They should report to the office of the Deputy Conservator, located at the 2nd floor of the Administrative Office Building, NMPT, Panambur, between 10.00 AM and 12.00 noon on the day of the Walk-in-Interview, for verification of their documents.

  3. Before attending the said interview, the candidates may contract telephone No. 0824-2407419 between 10.00AM and 05.00 PM on all working days to settle their queries, if any, regarding nature of work etc., and may inform about their attending the Walk-in-Interviews.

Senior Marine Engineer on Contract basis : (Number of posts : 01) Qualifications :

(i)
MOT First Class Motor Certificate, issued under Merchant Shipping Act, 1958.
(ii)
04 years experience as Chief Engineer OR 05 years combined experience as Chief Engineer and 2nd Engineer on board a foreign-going ship.

Age Limit : No upper age limit. However, the candidate should be physically fit enough to perform the duties that are required to be performed by a Senior Marine Engineer in the normal course of performance of his duties.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS FOR CONTRACT ENGAGEMENT AS SENIOR MARINE ENGINEER (MOT FIRST CLASS)

The Terms and Conditions for engagement on contract basis as a Senior Marine Engineer in this Port are as follows:

1. TENURE OF ENGAGEMENT

The period of engagement as a Senior Marine Engineer (MOT First Class) on contract basis shall be one year from the date of his joining for duty. The period of contract engagement can be extended depending on the requirement of the Port.

2. CONSOLIDATED SALARY

He will be paid a monthly consolidated monthly salary of Rs. 90,000/during the period of contract engagement. However, if he opts for occupation of

Ports quarters and if he is provided with accommodation and/or conveyance by

the Port, proportionate deductions will be made from the emoluments of the monthly salary payable to him.

3. SECURITY BOND

He shall execute a security bond (in the specimen attached herewith) to the effect that he will serve in the NMPT as a Senior Marine Engineer (MOT First Class) on contract basis for a minimum period of 01 year.

4. WORKING HOURS

The duration of working hours of a Senior Marine Engineer (MOT First Class) on contract basis will be 08 hours per day on all working days. He will report to the Deputy Conservator, New Mangalore Port Trust and will work in accordance with the instructions and the directions of the Deputy Conservator, New Mangalore Port Trust.

5. LEAVE ENTITLEMENTS

He will be permitted to avail a total of 15 days casual leave during the period of the contract engagement granted to him on pro rata basis at the rate of 1.25 days per each completed calendar month of contract service. No provision exists either for encashment of the non-availed portion of casual leave or for carrying forward the said leave to the future contract engagements, if any.

If he avails himself of leave in excess of his casual leave entitlement or absents himself from duty without leave on any day, deduction of a sum proportionate to the period of such absence will be made from the total emoluments of the monthly salary payable to him by calculating on the basis of the said monthly emoluments divided by 30 for each day of such absence.

6. TA/DA FOR TOUR/TRAVEL

As and when required to be deputed on official tour for the purpose of attending Port Trust work, he will be entitled to draw TA/DA as applicable to the category of the post held by him, with the prior approval of the Chairman, obtainable on each occasion through the Deputy Conservator, New Mangalore Port Trust. However, whenever he is deployed to proceed on voyage by floating crafts to perform temporary duties at places away from this Ports limits, he will be entitled to draw Voyage Allowances and Outstation Allowances at the applicable rates, in lieu of TA/DA. He will be entitled to draw the Voyage Allowance and Outstation Allowance with the prior approval of the Chairman on each occasion, obtainable through the DC, NMPT. No TA/DA will be paid for joining for duty in response to this offer.

7. MEDICAL FACILITIES

He shall be entitled for medical facilities in the New Mangalore Port Trust Hospital for self and family to the extent the facilities are available in-house. Contd.03/

8. PORT ACCOMMODATION

He will be permitted to occupy Port Quarters if he opts for the same. The class of accommodation that will be allotted to him shall commensurate with the post held by him subject to availability of vacant quarters. However, proportionate deductions will be made from the monthly consolidated salary payable to him as mentioned hereinbefore.

9. TERMINATION OF CONTRACT

The contract engagement can be terminated by either party (i.e. the New

Mangalore Port Trust or the contract employee) by giving one months notice

during the currency of the contract engagement.

10. OTHER SERVICE BENEFITS

For the purpose of attributability for the injuries sustained by him during his course of his duty, the Marine Engineer (MOT First Class) on contract basis will be treated as an employee of this Port only during his duty hours.

11. CLAIM FOR PERMANENT ABSORPTION

The contract engagement shall not confer on him any right to lay claim to permanent absorption in the Port service against any vacant post whatsoever.

12. SETTLEMENT OF DISPUTES

In the event of any dispute arising out of this contract, the interpretation and decision of the Chairman, New Mangalore Port Trust, will be final and binding.

In addition to the above, his engagement is subject to medical fitness for the duties as Senior Marine Engineer (MOT First Class). Therefore, the candidate selected for engagement as a Senior Marine Engineer (on contract basis) will have to report to the Chief Medical Officer of the Port Trust Hospital of this Port to undergo necessary medical examinations prior to joining for duty as Senior Marine Engineer (MOT First Class) on contract basis at this Port.
