Minimum eligibility:

Senior Research Fellow (SRF): Post Graduate in Engineering with first class in the relevant area of specialization with consistently high level of academic record, aptitude for research with valid GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) / UGC NET (National Eligibility Test) score.

Junior Research Fellow (JRF): Graduate in Engineering having first class with consistently high level of academic record, aptitude for research and valid GATE / UGC NET score.

Selection: CPRI will shortlist the candidates for admission to M.Sc (Engg) / Ph.D on merit, based on average percentage of marks obtained in all semesters in the qualifying examination(Graduate/Postgraduate in Engineering) , GATE / UGC NET score and marks obtained in personal interview. Shortlisted candidates should apply to VTU or any other centrally-funded/state-funded institute through CPRI Research Centre for admission to M.Sc (Engg) / Ph.D. Candidates who pass the entrance examination & interview and are declared eligible for M.Sc (Engg) / Ph.D, by such institutes as mentioned above will be awarded Fellowship by CPRI.

Duration: Duration of Fellowship is three years with a provision of extension up to one year in exceptional cases, based on the recommendation of the competent authority.

Evaluation of Project: The progress of the research project carried out by SRF/JRF will be evaluated every three months by the evaluation committee.

Remuneration and other facilities:

1. SRF shall get Rs.30,000/ (Fixed) (Rupees thirty thousand only) per month
   
   
2. JRF shall get Rs.20,000/ (Fixed) (Rupees twenty thousand only) per month
   
   
3. SRF and JRF shall get up to Rs 25,000 (Twenty five thousand rupees only) as a lump sum payment per year, based on the recommendation of the committee.
   
   
4. There shall be a 10% increment in Fellowship every year.
   
   
5. Reimbursement of expenditure up to Rs. 20,000/-(Twenty Thousand only) during the programme for contingency expenditure purpose for the project and recommended by the competent authority.
   
   
6. The SRF/JRF researchers are required to visit/stay at project sites depending on the exigencies in connection with the work to understand subject better.
   
   
7. Expenditure towards attending seminars/training programmes relevant to the project, will be provided as per CPRI norms.
   
   

Publication / Patent:

The results of Fellows research work may be published in standard peer reviewed Journals / Seminars / Conferences etc., at the discretion of the guide. It should be ensured that the assistance provided by CPRI is always acknowledged in all such publications / presentations. One copy of the published research paper / papers shall be sent to library of CPRI and to the Centre for Collaborative and Advanced Research (CCAR), CPRI. The right to commercial exploitation of the results and patent right arising out of the investigation / research will, however, rest exclusively with CPRI.

Other terms and conditions:

1. CPRI will have exclusive rights on the selection of research subject & research findings.
   
   
2. Research Fellows may be permitted to extend his/her research work for the award of M.Sc., (Engg) by Research / Doctoral Degree, if permitted by the concerned university.
   
   
3. The research programme is on tenure basis only and CPRI will be under no obligation to provide permanent employment to SRF/JRF. A few research fellows with right aptitude may be utilized for consultancy work carried out in CPRI.
   
   
4. The upper age limit for the above posts is 30 years as on last date for submission of applications. However, the age is relaxable by 3 years in case of OBC candidates and 5 years for candidates belonging to SC/ST category.
   
   
5. Institute reserves the right not to fill up the posts, if it so desires. Mere fulfillment of the minimum prescribed conditions will not vest any right to a candidate being called for written test/Interview. No correspondence will be entertained as regards short-listing/calling for written test/Interview, selection or appointment. The candidate needs to fulfill all rules & regulations of VTU/the concerned university including eligibility criteria and minimum qualification.
   
   
6. Applications received after the last date will be summarily rejected.
   
   
7. In case the candidates are awarded grades/CGPA instead of marks, the conversion of grades/CGPA to percentage of marks should be done based on the conversion formula certified by the university/institution from where the candidate has obtained the degree. In case the university/institution does not have any scheme for converting CGPA into equivalent marks, the equivalence would be established as per AICTE norms (http://www.aicte-india.org).
   
   
8. Candidates called for written test/Interview shall appear for the same at their own cost.
   
   
9. CPRI reserves the right to terminate the fellowship if the progress is not satisfactory.
   
   
10. CPRI reserves the right to change the rules and regulations governing research work and the students are obliged to abide by it.
    
    
11. All Candidates are required to stay in CPRI Campus.
    
    

How to apply:

1. Candidates may apply in the prescribed application form given in Annexure II. Completely filled in Application Form and all necessary enclosures may be sent in a sealed cover superscribed with APPLICATION FOR JRF / SRF to JOINT DIRECTOR (R&D), R&D Management Division, Central Power Research Institute, Prof.Sir C.V. Raman Road, PB NO.8066, Sadashiva Nagar P.O. Bangalore 560 080 on or before 22.06.2015.
   
   
2. Application fee of Rs. 250 for M.Sc (Engg) / Rs. 500 for Ph.D by Demand Draft in favour of Senior Accounts Officer, CPRI payable at Bangalore, should be enclosed along with the application. Candidates belonging to SC/ST/PWD category are exempted from payment of application fee.
   
   
3. Self-attested Copies of the certificates related to age, qualifications, caste, experience etc., shall be submitted along with the application form.
   
   
4. Self-attested copy of valid GATE/ UGC NET score card in relevant area shall be submitted along with the application form.
   
   
5. Self-attested copies of research publications in journals and conferences, if any, should be attached along with the application form.
   
   
6. One recent passport size photograph shall be affixed to the application form.
   
   
7. A brief bio data of the candidate (not exceeding 1 page) shall be enclosed along with the application form.
   
   
8. Candidates already working in any Government organization should apply through proper channel.
