Advertisement for Project Position at IIT Mandi

Applications are invited for the post of Junior Research Fellow (JRF) or project associate for the following project:

Project Title: Automatic Analysis of Avian Acoustics (Signal processing and machine learning applied to bird sounds) Coordinator: Dr. Padmanabhan Rajan (School of Computing and Electrical Engg.) Email: padman@iitmandi.ac.in

Funding agency: Science and Engineering Research Board, Govt. of India

Salary: Ranging from Rs. 12,000 to Rs. 25,000 per month, based on qualification and experience.

Essential Qualification: B.Tech. / B.E. / M.Tech / M.E. / MCA / M.Sc. (Computer Science, Electrical, Electronics, or related.) Valid GATE/NET or equivalent national level test score for JRF appointment.

Desirable:

• Good background in signal processing, machine learning
  
  
• Hands-on / project experience with Machine Learning / Signal Processing
  
  
• Good programming skills (Matlab, Python, C, C++)
  
  
• Some experience with Linux, LaTeX
  
  
• Good command over English language and technical writing in English
  
  

Main Responsibilities:

• Algorithm development and evaluation
  
  
• Data collection and annotation / labeling
  
  
• Assistance in purchasing laboratory equipment and their maintenance
  
  
• Detailed regular documentation of the project
  
  
• Building and maintaining the project website

Terms and Conditions:

• The coordinator has the discretion to restrict the number of candidates to be called for interview to a reasonable limit on the basis of qualifications and experience higher than the minimum prescribed in the announcement.
  
  
• The nature of the posts are purely temporary (on contract basis).
  
  
• The initial appointment will be for a period of 6 months, and can be extended further, subject to the performance of the candidate and the project requirements.
  
  
• Deserving Project Associate may be considered for MS program at IIT Mandi if s/he meets all the requirements of MS selection process as per the institute norms.
