IIT Mandi is the only IIT in the Himalayas. IIT Mandis 530 acre campus is located on the River Uhl, a tributary of the River Beas, 18 km outside the historic town of Mandi in Himachal Pradesh. IIT Mandi has evolved curricula at the Bachelors and Masters levels aimed at training engineering leaders for industry, academia and the public sector. The B. Tech. curriculum has a strong design component based on real-world problems, complemented by liberal doses of basic sciences, engineering sciences and the humanities. The curriculum offers flexibility for students to tailor their studies to their interests.

AMRC: Advanced Materials Research Centre (AMRC) is a multidisciplinary hub with a vision to promote excellence in advanced materials science and technology via cross disciplinary collaboration with internal and external users of the center. AMRC represents materials focused research in the areas of energy, environment, electronics, magnetism, organic displays, solar cells, drug delivery, nanotechnology etc. with participation of faculty members from physics, chemistry, biology and engineering disciplines. The Centre houses over 30 crores worth of instrument to support various research and development activities.

BioX Centre: The broad vision of this Centre is to perform cutting edge research in the focus areas of Systems and Synthetic Biology with applications in Health care, Agriculture, and Environment. The Centre envisions to push the frontiers of technology development and engineering toward advancements in disease prevention and affordable health care, agricultural practices with respect to the Himalayan region, and Himalayan Biodiversity exploration for biotechnological applications by bridging the gap between life sciences, physical sciences, and engineering.

C4DFED: The Centre for Design & Fabrication of Electronic Devices (C4DFED) is a unique institute facility for multidisciplinary research of electronic device design and fabrication. The Centre will have Class 100, Class 1000 & Class 10000 laboratories where high end sophisticated electronic device fabrications and characterizations tools will be housed. This Centre will be capable of handling research projects like integrated circuits (ICs) design and fabrication for Nanoelectronics, Nano-Micro (NEMS & MEMS) systems and also development of Extreme Ultraviolet Lithography (EUVL) resists materials for the Next Generation Semiconductor industry down to 10 nm technology node.

Energy: The Centre focuses on research and development of technology/prototypes and systems that will contribute towards the National Mission of electric mobility, with an initial emphasis on public transportation in mountainous regions.

Cold & Mountain region engineering: The focus is on sustainable development in mountainous terrain, preservation of the environment, and resistance to natural hazards such as earthquakes, landslides and avalanches.

Essential qualifications
Ph.D. in a relevant area with first class or equivalent at the preceding degree with consistently good academic record throughout.
Definition of "First Class" for the purpose of faculty selection:
IIT Mandi takes first class for faculty selection to mean 60% of the range of grade-points or marks. However, for those institutes which award first class, the minimum of 60% or the percentage of marks or grades at which the institute awards first class is taken as the criterion for first class. Nevertheless, the criterion for first class shall not be lower than 58% in any case.
Experience:
ASSISTANT PROFESSOR Grade-I: At least 3 years relevant industrial/research/teaching experience excluding the experience gained while pursing Ph.D. For this position, you should preferably be below 35 years of age.
ASSISTANT PROFESSOR Grade-II: For this position, you should preferably be below 35 years of age.
Higher qualifications and experience may be used in each area based on need. In view of the inter-disciplinary nature of IIT Mandi, although posts may be advertised against one School, you may be offered the same post in another School if the Selection Committee finds this more suitable. Applicants for Assistant Professor will be considered for both Grade-I and Grade-II depending on eligibility and suitability.

Please provide the names and contact information of the referees whom we can contact for the letter of reference. We will contact your referees and request them to send the letters of reference. Enclose reprints of your three best papers published. If you are employed in a Government or Semi-Government Organizations, Public Undertakings, University and Educational Institutions, you must upload a No Objection Certificate from your present employer.
Support for professional advancement of faculty
If you are joining the Institute from abroad a relocation allowance of Rs 1,00,000/-(Rs One lakh only) is admissible for yourself and your family subject to the condition that you serve the Institute for a minimum period of 3 years. If you are joining the Institute within India a relocation allowance of Rs. 50,000/-(Rs. Fifty thousand only) is admissible for yourself and your family subject to the condition that you serve the Institute for a minimum period of 3 years. A grant of Rs 1 lakh is provided for equipping your office upon joining.
A Startup Grant of up to Rs 5 lakhs for carrying out a research project of 3 years duration for the first three years, based on a research proposal may be given. A joint proposal from 2 faculty members is eligible for up to Rs 15 lakhs. This can be enhanced up to Rs 30 lakhs for exceptional proposals or proposals involving three or more faculties. A Cumulative Professional Development Allowance (CPDA) of Rs. 3 lakhs for every block period of 3 years (Rupees one lakh per year) is made available to you to meet the expenses for participation in national and international conferences, payment of membership fee of professional bodies, contingent expenses, etc. Access to additional funds from the School or the Institute. Applying for research funding from the external sources including government and industry. Guiding PhD and MS research scholars, and BTech/MTech projects. No limit on the attendance at International Conferences without Institute financial assistance. The Institute encourages your interaction with industry, and with other research and professional institutions. Professional visits can be undertaken during vacation period for carrying out research and for academic development. Sabbatical of upto one year may be granted after completion of six years of continuous service at the institute. Facilities for Research and Development activities are being established in all areas. You can define the choice of facilities. Good library and computing facilities are available and are being constantly enhanced.
Accommodation: On arrival, free accommodation in the Guest House for up to three months is provided for you. Allotment of quarters on campus is normally done within 3 months, subject to availability. Medical facility: You are entitled to medical attendance and treatment including reimbursement of medical expenses incurred on yourself and your family as provided for in the Statutes/Medical Attendance Rules of IIT Mandi.
Contributory Pension Scheme: The New Pension System will be applicable.
Scales of Pay
Notes: The posts carry allowances such as D.A., H.R.A., and transport allowance as per 7th CPC which correspond to those admissible to Central Government employees stationed at Mandi.
Depending upon the qualifications and experience, higher starting salary may be offered if you are deserving.
Additional Information
Permanent faculty positions are open to you if you are an Indian National. If you are a Person of Indian Origin (PIO), an overseas citizen of India (OCI), or a foreign national then an appointment for fixed periods on contract basis may be offered. Clearance from the Ministries of External Affairs and Home Affairs is necessary if you are a foreign national. Reservation: Without any compromise on qualification, experience and competence,
reservation as per Government of India rules is available. Necessary certificates must be
enclosed with the application form. The Institute reserves the right to fill or not fill any or all the posts advertised. The Institute reserves the right to restrict the number of candidates for interview to a reasonable limit on the basis of qualifications and experience higher than the minimum prescribed in the advertisement and other academic achievements. The invitation for interview merely indicates that it is felt that you with others may be suitable for the post and conveys no assurance whatsoever that you will be recommended or selected or your conditions specified in the application will be accepted. The Institute reserves the right to screen and call you only if you are found prima-facie suitable for being considered by the Selection Committee.
