NIPFP is a premier research institution in public economics and policy. The institute has made significant research contribution in the areas of revenue and taxation, fiscal management, public expenditure, macro-economic policies, fiscal federalism and other policy issues both at the Central and the State-level. Being the largest think-tank on public economics and policy in India, the institute faces an overwhelming demand for research in these areas. NIPFP undertakes training programmes on various aspects of public policy and public economics. Participants of these training programmes include government officials, university and college teachers, researchers and journalists from India and other South Asian countries. NIPFP also extends its support to public policy formulation not only through research, but also through representation of NIPFP faculty in various committees and commissions of the Central and State governments.
National Institute of Public Finance and Policy (NIPFP) and the Department of Economic Affairs (DEA), Ministry of Finance, have a long-running research programme, under which NIPFP provides research support to DEA and assists in analysing policy alternatives on an ongoing basis. The research team at NIPFP works closely with the officers at DEA, and interacts with a wide range of stakeholders to understand the issues and conduct policy-relevant research. NIPFP is looking to hire Senior Consultant (Law) to work for the NIPFP-DEA research program in various thematic areas of financial regulation and policy such as revival of private investment in Indian economy. It is an ideal position for those looking to gain experience in financial regulation and legal drafting.

Requirements:
- LL.B. from a reputed university.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
- At least seven years of relevant professional experience:
-
- o Worked closely with government clients, partners, private sector and support to the formulation and implementation of financial sector regulation.
- o Undertaken policy dialogue with counterpart agencies on sectoral and thematic issues
- o Provided leadership and supervised the work of team members.
Job description:
The incumbent will be required to conduct policy research and provide required support to the team with technical assistance on policy analysis and legal thematic work. S/he will also develop and disseminate knowledge products for capacity building on policy analysis, legal principles and methods. The indicative areas of enquiry will include but not be limited to the following thematic areas:
- a. Writing, reviewing, editing and approving key documents and presenting clear policy recommendations on FEMA, ODI and FDI related issues, implementation of non-legislative recommendations of FSLRC and any other issue related to the financial sector.
- b. Conducting and coordinating new research work in the field of financial markets, capital controls and foreign exchange, and any other issue relevant to the field of law and finance.
- c. Identifying and analysing legal issues in relation to FEMA, ODI and FDI related issues, FDI, and providing assistance in handling of matters of legal significance in the financial sector.
- d. Interacting with industry bodies and experts on contemporary challenges facing the financial sector especially on FEMA, ODI and FDI.
- e. Obtaining feedback on ongoing projects so that the output is as per the required standards.
- f. Conducting research and publishing papers, essays and opinion pieces.
- g. Managing a multi-disciplinary team to ensure timely delivery of project deliverables
- h. Mentoring junior consultants in the team
- i. Representing the institute in meetings and provide suggestions, ideas in various discussions in an effective manner.
- j. Performing such other duties as assigned from time to time.
