Advertisement for the post of Emeritus Professor

National Institute of Technology, Rourkela, an Institute of National Importance under Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India invites applications from distinguished Professors of the Institute superannuating within a year as well as other retired Professors from Central/State Government entities/ Autonomous Bodies etc., for the post of Emeritus Professor in various departments of NIT, Rourkela with the following terms and conditions:

1. Applicants should have been actively engaged in teaching and research in the tenure of his/her position as a professor.

2. The engagement will be for a term of two years initially after actual date of superannuation. These two years are inclusive of post retirement employment period or end of the Spring/Falling semester, whichever is longer. This may further be extended for one more year depending upon the performance evaluation subject to maximum age limit of 70 years.

3. The post will carry a consolidated honorarium of 100000/- (one lakh) per month.

4. An Emeritus Professor will be provided facilities equivalent to Professor in the Department to which s/he is attached.

5. Emeritus Professor will not have any administrative responsibility.

6. The Emeritus Professor will be required to undertake normal academic load.

7. The Emeritus Professor will be expected to participate in sponsored research and consultancy activities in association with regular faculty members of the Institute. S/he will not be a sole PI or Supervisor of any project or student respectively. S/he will need to share lab space with a faculty.

Candidates must possess qualification with international visibility, high-quality of research publications in journals and conferences, fellowship of Academy or Professional Society, must have conducted research projects being funded by Government of India or other organizations, must have supervised M. Tech./ M.Phil. and Ph. D. students. S/he should have associated herself/himself as volunteer and program committee member in national/international conference, editor/editorial committee in reputed journal, and should have dealt patent and consultancy. Preference will be given to candidates having publications of high academic standards with h-index (web of science) 10 or more.

Depending upon the suitability of the candidates and requirement of the Institute, number of posts will be finalized by the Institute.

General Information

1. All degrees mentioned in the application should be awarded by an Institute/ University recognised by the Government.

2. No person, (i) who had entered into or contracted a marriage with a person having a spouse living; or (ii) who is having a spouse alive, has entered into or contracted a marriage with any person, shall be eligible for appointment to the said post;

3. Persons employed in Government / Semi Government Organizations or Autonomous Bodies should submit their application through proper channel (Reference: point (d) of How to apply).

4. Mere fulfilment of minimum qualification and experience requirements does not entitle any candidate for a call for interview. A short listing criterion may be set higher than the minimum advertised.

5. The Institute reserves the right to call all the eligible candidates or short listed candidates for interview after screening by the Institute. The Institute also reserves the right to defer or cancel the selection process without assigning any reason thereof. The decision of the Institute in this regard will be final and binding on all the applicants who respond to this advertisement. No interim communication on the status of application will be entertained.

6. Candidates who are unable to attend the interview for being abroad can be permitted to attend the interview on their request through video conferencing on case to case basis. It is mandatory to have personal presence in the interview for the applicants who are residing in India.

7. Candidates who will get selected for interview will have to produce original documents in support of all the particulars mentioned in their application form regarding their reservation category, educational qualification, experience, and other claims.

8. Apart from merit, the specialization of a candidate within a department will play a vital role in selection. Candidate with specialization in greater need by the department will be given preference. Candidates with studentship or work experience in reputed Universities, Institutions or Industry or with greater relevance to the academic programmes of the department will be given preference. The Institutes decision on reputation of other Universities/Institute will be binding.

9. Canvassing in any manner would entail disqualification of the candidature.

10. The decision of the Institute in all matters will be final. No correspondence /interim inquiries will be entertained from the candidates in connection with the process of selection/ interview including reasons for not being called for interview. Any dispute with regard to the selection / recruitment process will be subject to Courts / Tribunals having jurisdiction over Rourkela.
