Facility Assistant Fly Facility C-CAMP/NCBS/inStem -- Bangalore Life Science Cluster (BLiSc)
Applications are open for the position of the facility assistant of the Fly facility at C-CAMP/NCBS/inStem, Bangalore.
Bangalore Life Science Cluster has a strong research community that uses Drosophila (fruit fly) as a model organism to address a range of fundamental questions in biology. In order to facilitate this, the Fly Facility offers researchers several services, including centralized support for Drosophila culture, maintaining a collection of commonly used, genetically defined Drosophila stocks, and generation of transgenic Drosophila strains using state-of-the-art technology for both for internal projects and as part of global collaborative initiatives. The facility also carries out developmental work towards enabling modern genome editing technologies in Drosophila.
The successful candidate will:
- Work full time in the the NCBS /inStem /CCAMP Fly Facility
- Be familiar in working with molecular biology techniques and genetics
- Work under the facility head in supporting campus academic researchers
- Assist the facility head in developing and implementing new techniques to keep the performance of the unit at the highest possible level
Responsibilities
- Work closely with other facility members in collaborative as well as individual experiments
- Use molecular biology based methods to clone DNA in vectors and get involved in high throughput molecular screening
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the Fly facility, including Drosophila husbandry, genetic manipulations along with other team mates.
- Assist in training programs for students and trainees during the year.
- Ensure routine maintenance of the facility consumables stocks.
- Present work at internal and external meetings.
Qualifications
- Masters in Science, or 4 year Bachelor in Technology / Science degree
- Prior experience in working in a research environment, prior experience in molecular biology techniques will be useful
- Prior experience with Drosophila is desirable
