Stem Cell Science and Regenerative Medicine Institute (inStem), an Autonomous Institute under the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India was established in 2009 head quartered at GKVK Campus, Bangalore. The Institutes mandate is to establish collaborative research programs involving interdisciplinary teams with translation emphasis as its core. The Institute has developed strengths in stem cell biology and manipulations, molecular medicine and bioengineering to address complex problems in areas of directed differentiation and tissue regeneration with disease relevance. Today, the Institute has six major thematic programs at Bangalore, several in close collaborations with clinicians, in areas of brain disorders, cardiac disease, tissue repair following injury and inflammation, cell differentiation and plasticity and chemical approaches aiding discovery. The Centre for Stem Cell Research is the clinical translational unit of the Institute, located at CMC Vellore, Tamil Nadu. The development of translational capabilities through programmatic partnerships with clinicians as well as the establishment of platform technologies and development of sophisticated technical capabilities, enabling endeavours across themes, are major thrusts of the Institute. The Institute shares a campus and core facilities with the National Centre of Biological Sciences (NCBS, TIFR) and the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Platform (CCAMP), which together constitute the Bangalore Life Science Cluster. The Institutes investigators partner with industry and international collaborators for specific projects of joint interest. Through these partnerships, the Institute offers a strong research base with state-of-the-art facilities to attract investigators to its theme-driven, interconnected network of research programs. Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, invites applications from eminent scientists (Indian Citizens only) having proven scientific record in life or medical sciences with application to disease science and possessing research excellent leadership and administrative abilities for the post of Director on Deputation (including short term contact)/Absorption. The position of Director offers a unique opportunity for the individual to provide strong, visionary and inclusive leadership of the institution. The individual should have an appreciation of possibilities inherent in functioning within a bio-cluster, integrating inStems growth and contributions with partnering institutions in the Bangalore Life Science Cluster. The Director is the Chief Executive of the institute and shall be responsible for leading and nurturing the core multi-disciplinary faculty, developing research policy, developing and promoting collaborations with partner institutes and industry as well as oversee administration of the affairs of the Institute.

Scale of Pay and other benefits: The selected incumbent will be placed in the Level-17 (As per 7th CPC) Apex Scale: Rs.225000/- (Fixed). Other benefits/allowances shall be as per rules of Government of India applicable for appointment on deputation including Short-Term Contract /Absorption basis.

Eligibility Criteria:
4.1. Scientists from Central / State Governments, Research Institutes, Autonomous Bodies, Government funded Research Organizational Institutes, etc.
4.2. Holding analogous post on regular basis in the parent Department; or
4.3. With 5 years service in post with Grade Pay of Rs. 10,000/- (level 14) or equivalent in the parent cadre/Department and possesses the qualification & experience as below: -
Essential:
- PhD in any life science discipline/MD/M.Tech or equivalent.
- Minimum 15 years experience of research in the area of specialization.
- Excellent track record, excellent scientific publications, patent and awards.
Desirable:
- Experience in successfully running large programme, centre, institution.
- Experience of guiding research activities in the area of specialization.

Age limit and tenure of appointment: The period of deputation includes period deputation in other ex-cadre posts, held immediately preceding this appointment in the same or some other organization/Department should ordinarily not exceed 5 years. The maximum age limit for appointment on deputation (ISTC) should not exceed 58 years as on the closing date of receipt of applications.
