The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) which was established in 1936 is a Deemed University fully funded by the University Grant Commission (UGC), Government of India. TISS offers Master Degree Programmes, M. Phil. And PhD Programmes in the field of Social Work, Social Sciences, Health, Management, Labour Studies, Habitat Studies and Rural Development from its Mumbai, Tuljapur, Guwahati and Hyderabad Campuses. The institute is currently looking for bright candidates to work with the Computer Centre and thereby to strengthen the IT infrastructure.

Applications are invited for the post of System Administrator (1 position) to be filled on contract basis for a period of one year.

Qualifications and other details:

1. Graduates in IT/Computer Engineering or BSc in IT or Computers or Computer Science. Preferably with linux administration certification.
   
   
2. Core Competencies and Skills : A hands on understanding of a GNU/Linux distribution preferably Debian or Ubuntu, Strong command of the BASH shell commands, Strong command of at least one shell based editor preferably vim or emacs, Strong understanding and command of the GNU/Linux user/group/other permissions and ownership at PAM and structures, units and divisions at LDAP levels, Strong understanding and command of the GNU/Linux ext3/ext4 file system and hierarchies, Shell scripting, along with minor sed and awk skills is a bonus, Strong understanding and command of Apache, SSH(D), SAMBA, LDAP, Cyrus IMAP, Postfix, Dovecot, Round Cube administration and deployment
   
   
3. Handle the hosting environment including routine updates
   
   

and planning and management of longer-term infrastructure upgrades

1. Management of the storage infrastructure including backups and general IT maintenance
   
   
2. Software management (updates and configuration; scripting & automation) of a live hosting infrastructure
   
   
3. Manage the Data Center
   
   
4. Provide level 3 troubleshooting support to users
   
   
5. Manage DNS system for tiss.edu domain.
   
   
6. Manage tiss email and authentication services. These services include following technologies postfix, openldap, dnscache, spamassasin, Roundcube, php, apache2, dovecot and iptables.
   
   
7. Manage configuration for network switches.
   
   
8. Manage Xen Virtualization servers, Kernel based Virtual machines, Docker based Containers.
   
   
9. Do kernel level optimization for Linux servers and routers for performance enhancements.
   
   
10. Added Bonus Qualifications : RHCE/RHCT and/or CCNA/CCNP certifications, Working on Mac OS X
    
    
11. Duties and Responsibilities : Troubleshooting, Problem diagnosis and solving under high pressure environments, Upgrades and updates of existing software, Configuring and deploying above stated applications, Documenting work and system changes, Good communication skills and teamwork capabilities
    
    
12. Experience : Minimum 4-5 years of experience
    
    

Salary:-Rs. 55000 consolidated salary per month
