Application for the position of Postdoctoral Research Associate under the ISF-UGC-funded project

Postdoctoral research topic & related duties: Applications are invited from Indian nationals to work as a Postdoctoral researcher / Research Assistant in the Palaeo-Arch Lab at IISER Mohali under the ISF-UGC-funded project The First Global Culture: Lower Paleolithic Acheulean Adaptations at the Two Ends of Asia.The project is a collaboration between Indian and Israeli colleagues to broadly compare various Palaeolithic records and associated geological data to understand Acheulean technology, behaviour and population dispersals. The methods include geological fieldwork in Central India and relevant lab work to address issues relating to site contexts, chronologies, landform evolution, fluvial transport and so forth. Project fieldwork may last several months at a stretch. The selected candidate is expected to develop their own specific research topic but which should be related to the overall project. In addition, the candidate will be expected to participate in and assist with project-related fieldwork, lab work, conferences, workshops and so forth. The selected researcher will collaborate with, and be mentored by, Parth R. Chauhan and other project collaborators.
Essential Qualifications:
The applicant should hold a Ph.D. in Geology or a related subject (e.g. Geological Sciences, Earth Sciences, Geochronology) completed within the last five years - and have a strong training and suitable experience in geological field and lab methods, with a thrust in Quaternary geology. The candidate must be able to carry out extensive geological field surveys, stratigraphic documentation and one or more types of geological laboratory analyses such as: petrography, geochemistry, sedimentology, fossil analyses, stable isotopes or various relative and absolute dating methods etc. Basic computer skills (e.g. GIS, geological mapping, remote sensing) and proficiency in English are desirable, along with willingness to work hard and show intellectual enthusiasm.
