Vacancies for the following posts at Prayas, a field action project of the Centre for Criminology and Justice, School of Social Work, TISS, Mumbai.

1. Legal Fellows

Nature of Appointment: Contract (3 years, starting November 1, 2018)

Location: Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Thane and Latur

Gender: In Latur, only male applicants are invited. In Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and

Thane, applicants of any gender are invited.

This is a full-time paid position. Selected candidates will be expected to reside within the municipal limits of the city of their selection but may be required to travel frequently to other districts as per programme needs. Legal Fellows main role will be to co-ordinate with/assist Prayas Legal Mentors or lawyers empanelled with the District Legal Services.

Requirements:

Degree in Law.

Registration as a practicing advocate with Bar Council of any State in India.

Preference may be given to persons having 2-3 years of experience in legal practice. This

requirement may be relaxed.

Proficiency in reading, writing and speaking Marathi.

Ability to read, write and speak English.

Ability to draft bail applications.

Familiarity with use of MS-Office, emails and the internet.

Prior experience in similar field of work or work with the District Legal Services

Authority or NGO is desirable.

Ability to work effectively in teams as well as independently.

During the contract period, Fellows will not provide legal representation in independent

capacity.

During contract period, Fellows shall not take up any other employment without the prior

permission of the employer.

Salary: Rs. 30,000 per month.

2. Legal Mentors

Nature of Appointment: Advisory (upto 3 years, starting December 1, 2018)

Location: Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Thane and Latur

Requirements:

Lawyers empanelled with the District Legal Services Authority or lawyers with experience of taking up pro-bono legal aid cases. Ability to mentor Legal Fellows. Represent cases referred by Prayas or the District Legal Services Authority.

Compensation:Rs. 10,000 per month

3. Social Work Fellows

Nature of Appointment: Contract (3 years, starting November 1, 2018)

Location: Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Thane and Latur

Gender: In Latur, only male applicants invited. In Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and

Thane districts, applicants of any gender are invited.

This is a full time paid position. Selected candidates will be expected to reside within the municipal limits of the city of their selection but may be required to travel frequently to other districts as per programme needs.

Requirements:

Masters degree in Social Work.

In Latur district, there is relaxation in qualification. Applications are also invited from

persons holding Bachelorsdegree in Social Work.

Knowledge of computer skills

Ability to read, write and speak in Marathi, English and Hindi.

Familiarity with the use of MS-Office, emails and the internet.

Preference may be given to social workers with minimum 2-3 years of experience or

work experience in the criminal justice system.

Ability to work effectively in teams as well as independently.

During contract period, Fellows shall not take up any other employment without the prior

permission of the employer.

Salary: Rs. 30,000 per month.

4. Senior Research and Documentation Officer

Nature of Appointment: Contract (3 years, starting November 1, 2018)

Location: Mumbai

Requirements:

Past experience in research and/or documentation.

Excellent skills in written English and Marathi.

Masters degree in Social Work preferred.

Preference to be given to persons with prior experience of research and documentation in

the field of criminal justice.

Ability to work effectively in teams as well as independently.

During contract period, no other employment shall be taken without the prior permission

of the employer.

Salary: Rs 30, 000 onwards (Negotiable, subject to experience)

The above qualifications may be relaxed in exceptional circumstances.
