Applications are invited for the post of Institute Post-Doctoral Fellow

Number of posts: 01

Age Limit: Preferably below 30 years. It can be relaxed for a candidate with exceptional abilities.

Duration: Initially for 1 year, extendable to 2 years upon satisfactory performance.

Salary: As per Institute norms, as applicable from time to time (current Rs. 40,000 + 20% HRA)

Minimum qualifications: The position requires a Ph.D. in Physics, Atmospheric Sciences, Atmospheric Chemistry, or related fields from a recognized University/Institute. The candidate should have a firm fundamental knowledge of solar variability, radiative transfer, atmospheric science, climate change and be willing to participate in field campaigns (involving some travel). Expertise in dispersion modeling, receptor modeling or other Bayesian approaches for aerosol source apportionment and/or atmospheric radiative transfer modeling is required.

Desirable qualifications: In addition to the minimum qualifications, experience with analysis of hyper-spectral satellite data such as that from OMI, GOME-2, AIRS, MODIS, or IASI is also desirable. The ability to access NASA data in HDF-5 format and process it is also necessary for the position She/he should also have good verbal and written communication skills as well as be experienced in the standard computing languages such as C/C++, IDL, MATLAB or Fortran.

Research responsibilities: The post-doc will be required to participate in aerosol source apportionment and aerosol radiative transfer model development/testing and application of such models to ground-based aerosol measurements (chemical and optical properties). The post-doc will also be expected to have some experience in handling instruments for aerosol chemical analyses, but his/her primary task will be the development of models and/or adapting existing models for aerosol air quality, health and climate effects assessment. The post-doc may also have to participate in data quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) and validation.
