Expression of interest (EOI) for Senior Consultants

The National Centre for Earth Science Studies (NCESS) is a premier autonomous R&D institute in the country functioning under the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES), Government of India. Over the years, the Centre has initiated studies within geosciences, marine sciences, atmospheric sciences and environmental sciences. State of the art laboratory facilities were established for different disciplines in the institute to support studies on internal as well as surface processes of the south Indian lithosphere, the adjoining Arabian Sea, Lakshadweep islands and their interaction with the atmosphere. The activities of NCESS are presently organized under i) Crustal Processes, ii) Coastal Processes, iii) Atmospheric Processes and iv) Natural Resources and Environmental Management. The programs in Solid Earth Studies mainly focus on the processes that operate both at the surface as well as at deep crustal levels. In order to implement time-bound projects as well as to provide sufficient field exposure to the young scientists of the institute, it is decided to avail services of former Scientist of national laboratories in the grade of Scientist-G or person from the recognized universities/IITs/IISC having proven record in Palaeomagnetism with high impact factor publications in relevant fields.

Palaeomagnetism

NCESS currently seeks to engage one consultant to spearhead its key activities on the discipline palaeomagnetism. The consultant on Palaeomagnetism is expected to implement some of the ongoing projects in the area of palaeomagnetism and mafic igneous petrology. In addition, the palaeomagnetism facility of the Centre needs to be maintained and training to be imparted to younger colleagues.

2. Qualification and Experience:

Former Scientist of national laboratories in the grade of Scientist-G or person from the recognized universities/IITs/IISC having proven record in Palaeomagnetism with high impact factor publications in relevant fields.

3. Consultation fee

Rs. 75,000/- per month

The position is offered for a period of two years initially and may be extendable up to a maximum period of five years. Retired Government employees of less than 65 years with experience and knowledge in the required domain are also eligible for this position.

The engagement of a Consultant is on full-time basis and he/she will not be permitted to take up any other assignment during the period of consultancy. The consultant is eligible for 12 days of leave in a calendar year on pro-rata basis. No TA/DA is admissible for joining the assignment or on completion.
