OVERVIEW Applications are invited from 3rd semester master students at Allahabad University in the fields of mathematics, informatics, bioinformatics, physics, medicine, life sciences, economics and related areas for pursuing an internship at Heidelberg University, Germany in Big Data Research.

The selected students will spend a research period (up to three months) in their final masters year at Heidelberg University. Upon successful joint evaluation (by Heidelberg and Indian institution) and after obtaining their Masters degree from the Indian institution, selected students will enter the bilateral Joint PhD program from Heidelberg University and Indian institution under the DBT-Heidelberg Joint Graduate Program in Big Data Research. In the program running with six Indian institutions, scholarships are available, covering international flight, local hospitality, consumables at the laboratories and supervision.

The goal of the program is to train students in managing, processing, analyzing and evaluating different text, image, video and sensor data types from specific sources, such as human genome sequencing, high content bioimages, various scanner data, historical mass data and global economic data.

ELIGIBILITY Master students in 3rd semester graduating at the participating Indian institutions in the fields of mathematics, informatics, bioinformatics, physics, medicine, life sciences and related areas Candidates having secured at least 65 % marks (or CGPA equivalent) in aggregate by the end of the 2nd semester (first year) of M.Sc./M.Tech. course are eligible for application Proficiency in at least one programming language, mathematics and prior exposure to informatics Only Indian citizens pursuing master degree in academic session 201718 (July December in 3rd semester) are eligible to apply Fellowships will be offered based on competitive selection

The selection for the joint PhD program involves researchers from Indian institutions and Heidelberg University through joint interviews. The criteria include proficiency in theory and methods (mathematics, programming, informatics, 4th semester studies and CGPA score, research capability). To be successful, applicants should clear the above mentioned aspects.

HOW TO APPLY Students should apply by email the local coordinator at their institution by submitting their CV, transcripts, letter of motivation and application form. The application submission** will commence on 20th November 2017 and be available until 1st December 2017. The shortlisted candidates for the interview will be notified by 8th December 2017. Incomplete or wrongly filled applications will be rejected. Start of internships: January 2018.
