Note: -Candidates belonging to broad disciplines of Electrical Sciences including EE, ECE and CSE are eligible. S/he must be a distinguished research professional/academician with an outstanding record of achievements, national and international visibility through high quality publications, research projects, and fellowships of professional societies and academies. Besides salary as prescribed for professor of NIT in Pay Level 14-A of 7th CPC, s/he will be entitled to additional sum of Rs. 25,000 as honorarium per month and Rs.3 lakhs per year will also be made available towards discretionary research expenses.

The initial appointment of the Chair Professorship is for a period of 3 years, which may be extended by another 2 years upon satisfactory performance. A new selection will be held on every 3 to 5 years. The incumbent Chair Professor may also be a candidate for fresh appointment. If the present incumbent will not be found suitable for the Chair Professorship in the next round of selection, s/he will continue as a regular professor in the Electrical Engineering department, nevertheless s/he will not be entitled to additional amount and research grant as mentioned above. The additional honorarium and research grant are coextensive with the Chair Professor post.

Detailed Educational Qualifications, Experience and other criteria for selection shall be as per the Recruitment Rule (RR) for Professors in NITs published in the Gazette of India, dated 24/Jul/2017 available on our website at http://nitrkl.ac.in/docs/Career/MRR.pdf.

In addition, the candidate for the chair professor position must possess qualification with the international visibility through IEEE award, high-quality of research publications in electrical engineering journals and conferences, fellowship of Academy or Professional Society, must have conducted research projects being funded by Government of India or other organizations, must have supervised M. Tech. and Ph. D. students. S/he should have associated her/himself as volunteer and program committee member in national/international conference, editor/editorial committee in reputed journal, and should have dealt patent and consultancy. Preference will be given to candidates having publications of high academic standards with h-index (web of science) 10 or more.

The professors of NIT, Rourkela fulfilling the above criteria are also eligible to apply.

Academic Compensations and Incentives

In addition to normal pay and allowances as applicable to the central government employees stationed at Rourkela, following additional incentives are also available to the faculty members:

a) Full funding for attending national/international conference either for presenting a paper or chairing session as per Institute guidelines membership of professional societies and purchase of books under Professional Development Allowance (PDA), limited to Rs.3.00 lakh in 3 years for all taken together (policy may change from time to time as per GOI guidelines).

b) Reimbursement of telephone charges up to Rs.500.00 per month. c) Reimbursement of relocation charges from within India to join the Institute as per GOI

guidelines. d) Attractive medical facility including referral to outside specialized and reputed hospitals. e) Accommodation: Suitable residential accommodation as per rules subject to availability will be

provided in the Institute Campus. HRA may be paid in lieu of residential accommodation.

General Information

  1. All Qualifications, Experiences and Age Limit will be considered as on or before 16/Apr/2018 (Closing date of online application form).

  2. All degrees mentioned in the application should be awarded by an Institute/ University recognised by the Government.

  3. No person, (i) who had entered into or contracted a marriage with a person having a spouse living; or (ii) who is having a spouse alive, has entered into or contracted a marriage with any person, shall be eligible for appointment to the said post;

  1. Fresh appointments beyond the age of 60 years is discouraged except in the case of faculty with exceptionally brilliant research (particularly industrial research involving a strong record of patents) career and with ongoing or approved externally funded research projects.

  2. Applications received on or before the published closing date will only be considered for scrutiny and selection.

  3. Mere fulfilment of minimum qualification and experience requirements does not entitle any candidate for a call for interview. A short listing criterion may be set higher than the minimum advertised.

  4. Candidates possessing qualifying degrees in allied branches with superior academic record, appropriate course background and relevant research experience may be considered on merit.

  5. The Institute reserves the right to call all the eligible candidates or short listed candidates for interview after screening by the Institute. The Institute also reserves the right to defer or cancel the selection process without assigning any reason thereof. The decision of the Institute in this regard will be final and binding on all the applicants who respond to this advertisement. No interim communication on the status of application will be entertained.

  6. Candidates who are unable to attend the interview for being abroad can be permitted to attend the interview on their request through video conferencing on case to case basis. It is mandatory to have personal presence in the interview for the applicants who are residing in India.

  7. Candidates who will get selected for interview will have to produce original documents in support of all the particulars mentioned in their application form regarding their reservation category, educational qualification, experience, and other claims.

  8. Apart from merit, the specialization of a candidate within a department will play a vital role in selection. Candidate with specialization in greater need by the department will be given preference. Candidates with studentship or work experience in reputed Universities, Institutions or Industry or with greater relevance to the academic programmes of the

department will be given preference. The Institutes decision on reputation of other

Universities/Institute will be binding.

  1. Experienced and/or meritorious candidates may be granted higher starting pay on recommendation of the selection committee.

  2. Selected candidates on regular positions will be under probation and will be confirmed subject to satisfactory completion of the probation and other requirements as per Institute Rules.

  3. Canvassing in any manner would entail disqualification of the candidature.

  4. Name of the shortlisted candidates will be displayed in the Institute website. Beside, all information regarding selection test, Interview schedule etc. will also be provided through the Institute website only. The Institute will not be responsible in any manner if a candidate fails to visit / access the website in time.   5. The decision of the Institute in all matters will be final.
