Energy, Govt. of India for Department of Mining Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines), Dhanbad.
About the Department of Atomic Energy, Govt. of India
The Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) is under the direct charge of the Prime Minister through a Presidential Order. DAE has been engaged in the development of nuclear power technology, applications of radiation technologies in the fields of agriculture, medicine, industry and basic research. DAE comprises five research centres, three industrial organizations, five public sector undertakings and three service organizations. It has under its aegis two boards for promoting and funding extra-mural research in nuclear and allied fields, mathematics and a national institute (deemed university). It also supports eight institutes of international repute engaged in research in basic sciences, astronomy, astrophysics, cancer research and education. It also has in its fold an educational society that provides educational facilities for children of DAE employees.

- 1) Qualification, Pay Scale and Experience:
a) Ph.D. with first class or equivalent at the preceding degree in the appropriate branch of engineering with a very good academic record throughout.
b) Minimum 10 years experience out of which at least 4 years should be at the level of Associate Professor or equivalent post in industrial/ R&D organization.
Or
c) An outstanding Engineer/Technologist working in industry with established reputation and who has made significant contribution to knowledge. Requirement of Ph.D degree in such cases may be relaxed.
- 2) Areas of specialization and Scope of Work: Exploitation of uranium minerals and underground disposal.
(a) Exploration and exploitation of atomic mineral resources in general and uranium mineral resource in particular.
(b) Feasibility studies and planning of underground and opencast mines.
(c) Technological assessment and absorption of new technology in exploration and exploitation of uranium minerals.
(d) Ventilation planning for the underground mines to control concentration of radio nuclei in mine air.
(e) Knowledge gathering and sharing of new technology.
(f) Actively involved in and lead research in such areas as cost-effective exploration and exploitation of uranium minerals, design of ventilation system and disposal of radioactive substances.
(g) Close interaction with DAE including visit to mines of UCIL for one week once every three months and at least once in a year to AMD.
(h) Design, co-ordinate and conduct relevant courses for employees of DAE either at IIT(ISM), Dhanbad or at any of the DAE establishments and
(i) Take up projects relevant to and assigned by DAE.
- 3) Who can apply:
(a) Persons from Industry/Academia/Research Institutes/Government Organisations who are in service or have superannuated.
(b) Persons who are serving as faculty at IIT(ISM), Dhanbad or other Academic Institutions.
- 4) The incumbent is expected to promote industry institute interaction and R&D activities and also share teaching load of the Department.
5) Nature of Appointment: Tenure appointment initially for two years which may be extended further in stages up to 70 years of age.
6) Age: At the time of appointment the Uranium Chair Professor should have a minimum of two years to serve before reaching the maximum age of 70 years.

7) Pay and other benefits:
- a) For Retired persons: Annual salary to a retired candidate/ candidates from other academic institutions will be restricted to 8.67 lacs per annum. In case of increase of endowment from the company, the annual salary will increase accordingly.
- b) For the faculty of IIT(ISM): On selection as Chair Professor, their pay would be protected as per GOI rules, apart from the usual allowances available to them, and any shortfall would be met by supplementation from institute fund. Apart from his/her salary and allowances, the candidate will receive a chair honorarium of Rs. 20,000per month.
8) Interested candidates may apply in the prescribed application form which can be downloaded from ISM website www.iitism.ac.in and can be submitted with a fee of Rs. 100/- in the form of Account Payee Demand Draft drawn on any nationalized bank in favour of Registrar, Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines), Dhanbad payable at Dhanbad. The duly filled-in & signed applications along with prescribed fee and supporting documents are to be sent to the Deputy Registrar (Estt.), Admn. Block, Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines), Dhanbad 826 004, Jharkhand, India. Those candidates who have applied in response to earlier advertisements need to apply afresh.
9) Candidates called for personal discussion with the Selection Committee will be reimbursed to & fro journey expenses limited to AC-2/Air Economy Fare (Air India only) by the shortest route as per rule. No reimbursement of fare from outside India will be admissible. However reimbursement of fare from the place of disembarkation in India to Dhanbad will be admissible in such cases.
10) Incomplete applications shall be summarily rejected.
11) Last date for receipt for applications is 20th April, 2018 till 05:00 PM.
12) Settlement of legal disputes, if any, with IIT(ISM), Dhanbad is restricted to Dhanbad jurisdiction only.
13) Canvassing in any form will be a disqualification.
