General Information for applicants to faculty positions
Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (IIMC) invites applications to various academic groups (please refer to the faculty page in IIMC website for information on the academic groups at IIMC) from candidates with exceptional academic background for the positions of Professor, Associate Professor, Assistant Professor, and Assistant Professor on Contract. The Institute is looking for candidates with significant research output and with good teaching record. Preference would be given to young candidates. Fresh Ph.D. candidates should be able to demonstrate their research and publication potential.
IIMC, the first national level management school in India, was set up by the Government of India in 1961. Today it is globally recognized as a leading management school in the Asia-Pacific region for its quality of teaching and research. IIMC is the first (and till now the only) accredited institution in India with the triple crown, having won international accreditations from AACSB, EQUIS and AMBA. It is also the sole Indian member of CEMS, a global alliance of elite management schools.
The Institute provides a very congenial environment for academic work and scholarship with a strong emphasis on research. Its continuing emphasis on and support to high quality research is proven by the amount of scholarly output in reputed peer reviewed journals by IIMC faculty that feature in UT Dallas Ranking, Google Scholar and Science Direct, and has led to IIMC being internationally recognized as an institute with high priority on research. Research is given significant weightage for career advancement of faculty members in the Institute and appropriate mechanisms are in place to promote faculty development and research. In addition to usual compensations and benefits, which are among the best in the country, IIMC offers liberal financial support for attending international conferences and also provides generous grant for carrying out research. All candidates must have a doctoral degree in a relevant field (with a first class in the preceding degree) as the minimum qualifying criteria. Candidates with proven track records of publications in reputed peer reviewed journals commensurate to the rank would be preferred. A candidate who has recently completed or is close to completion of the doctoral degree should demonstrate strong research and publication potential. Base salary is as per guidelines of the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. The Institute also offers opportunities to excel in other activities related to management education, including training and consulting. Candidates who have recently completed their doctoral degree without adequate relevant work experience would be considered only for an Assistant Professor on Contract position. Candidates with prior appropriate academic and professional experience may also apply for Full Time Visiting Faculty positions.
For a permanent position, the work experience requirement is as follows:
- Professor: Minimum 10 years relevant experience, of which 4 years must be at Associate Professor level at IIMs or other peer institutes in India and / or abroad.
- Associate Professor: Minimum 6 years relevant experience, of which 3 years must be at Assistant Professor level at IIMs or other peer institutes in India and / or abroad.
- Assistant Professor: Minimum 3 years relevant experience (part-time work experience while doing doctoral research will not be counted).

Please ensure that your application is accompanied by a covering letter and signed confidential reports (up to two pages length for each report) from the referees mentioned by you. Each signed confidential report must be provided in a sealed envelope with the signature of the respective referee across the flap of the envelope. The application should be addressed to Director, IIM Calcutta, Diamond Harbour Road, Joka, Kolkata 700104, India.
In case of applying by e-mail, the application should be sent to director@iimcal.ac.in and the confidential report must be sent directly by the referees from their email id (the one mentioned in the application) to director@iimcal.ac.in. Non-receipt of referee reports or application not as per pro forma given above would be construed as an incomplete application and will not be considered for processing.
