Applications are invited up to 11th April 2018 (Wednesday) for one post of Scientist-B (Microbiology/ Virology) by direct recruitment under Scheduled Tribe category in Level-10 of Pay Matrix under VII CPC [Pre-revised Pay Band (PB-3) Rs.15600-39100+ Grade Pay Rs.5400 and other allowances as per Rules at the ICMRs National Institute of Epidemiology, Chennai.

Essential Qualification:

1st class Masters degree in relevant subjects (Microbiology/ Medical Lab Technology/ Virology) from a recognized University

OR

2nd Class M.Sc.+ Ph.D. degree in the above subjects from a recognized University.

Desirable Qualification:

(i) Doctorate in Microbiology/ Medical Lab Technology/ Virology

(ii) Additional Post doctoral research/ teaching experience in clinical microbiology/ infectious disease diagnostics or surveillance/ clinical laboratory research/ immunology research in recognized institute(s)

(iii) Working knowledge of computer applications and bioinformatics.

(iv) Two years R&D / Teaching experience in clinical microbiology/ infectious disease diagnostics or surveillance/clinical laboratory research/immunology research after obtaining essential qualifications.

Category : Candidates should apply with ST certificate.

Age Limit: Not exceeding 40 years (including 5 years of age relaxable for ST

candidates) as on the last date mentioned above. Relaxable upto 5 years for Government servants and 10 years for Physically Handicapped (PH) candidates.

One time age relaxation is allowed to Scientific and Technical Staff working in long term projects of ICMR Institutes / Centres, in respect of posts advertised under HRSC-2007 provided they meet essential qualifications and experience prescribed for the posts with a view to provide them opportunity to compete with other candidates, as per Councils letter No.6/1/2007-Admn.II dated 28.3.2011.

Job Requirement:

The incumbent is required to plan and carry out/ contribute to laboratory aspects of epidemiological research. Specific requirements / duties of the advertised position include but not limited to the following:

i) Planning and organizing research projects/ activities.

ii) Providing technical support to senior researchers in conduct of research projects/ activities including supervising student projects.

iii) Should have good hands-on experience in routine clinical microbiology and molecular

biology techniques including PCR (end point and real time), sequencing and bioinformatics.

iv) Preparing SOPs and carrying out research following GLP.

v) Maintaining accurate and up-to-date records of assigned research projects/ activities.

vi) Strong written and oral communication skills in English for writing up research findings

as reports and publications in peer reviewed journals of international repute.

vii) Liaising with colleagues from other departments in NIE/ ICMR institutes for smooth conduct of research projects or activities.

viii) Required to serve as faculty/ trainer for laboratory aspects of various training programmes and courses at NIE.

ix) Required to carry out field work including M & E and any other work assigned by the Director.

General Relaxation clause: Age, Qualification and experience will be relaxable in deserving cases as mentioned in the Recruitment Rules of Health Research Scientist cadre of ICMR, 2007 under Rule 14 and Notes (i) & (ii) of Schedule III.

Other Service Conditions:

(1) Level-10 of Pay Matrix under VII CPC [Pre-revised Pay Band-3 Rs.15600-39100 +

Grade Pay Rs.5400]

(2) Allowances as per Central Government Rules are admissible on the above pay scale.

(3) Benefits of new restructured defined contributory pension system are admissible as per the provision contained in the Ministry of Finance, Department of Economic Affairs (ECB & PR Division), Notification No.5/7/2003-ECB & PR dated 22.12.2003 effective from 1.1.2004.

(4) Applications from employees working in Central / State Govt. Departments / Public Sector Undertakings and Govt. funded research agencies must be forwarded through proper channel. Advance copies of application will be considered subject to the conditions that a No Objection Certificate from the employer is produced at the time of personal discussion. Application received after the closing date will not be considered. Candidates called for personal discussion have the option to answer in Hindi also.

(3) Documents to be enclosed with the application form (self attested copies):-

b) Educational qualification.

c) Community Certificate (ST).

d) Experience.

e) List of Publications mentioning clearly the Name of the Journal and Impact

Factor.

(4) Unsigned/Incomplete application, application without required supportive evidence and applications received late shall be summarily rejected.

Note: 1) Ph.D. degree in relevant subjects (Microbiology / Medical Lab Technology / Virology) shall be treated equivalent to three years experience. 2) Candidates with Ph.D. degree in relevant subjects will be preferred for direct recruitment. 3) Since it is not possible to call all the eligible candidates for the written test / personal discussion, the applicants will be short-listed for this purpose. The decision of the Director General, ICMR will be final in this regard. 4) Candidates called for written test / personal discussion will be paid a 2nd class rail fare by the shortest route on production of documents. Local transport charges shall however be borne by the candidates themselves. 5) Any canvassing by or on behalf of the candidates or to bring political or other outside influence with regard to selection/recruitment shall be disqualification. 6) The post is with all India transfer liability under the Council.
