The Oraon society has a great love for music. Their variety of music and dance is amazing, there is hardly any other community that is comparable with their artistic excellence. Their dress and musical instruments too are beautiful to look at. Beautiful appearance and sweet sound of Dance-music makes one feel like rushing to the dance ground, Mandar, Nagara, Thechka, Ghanti, Tirio etc., are their favourite musical instruments. "The music and dances of the Oraon are performed all year round with great joy. They cannot even imagine to live without them. There are some kinds of songs which are accompanied neither by any musical instrument or by any dance. Apart from the Kurkh songs there is an abundance of Nagpuri songs among the Oraon. These songs are very pleasant in their style and melody. The collections of folk songs by W.G. Archer and Dharam Das Lakra are proofs of this. Many of the songs relating to rituals of wedding are in Nagpuri in addition of Kurukh. The Oraons have been greatly influenced by the Sadans. In fact Sadan, Munda, Oraon and Kharia have a history of living together from time immemorial. Consequently their being influenced by each others music and dance is quite natural."
